War of the Beast

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"1,500 years later, a massive Ork Warboss of unparalleled power known simply as The Beast appeared on Ullanor, making it the center of his empire. The world became heavily urbanized by the Orks, covering nearly the entire planet in surprisingly well-organized settlements. The Beast made his home in the capital city of Gorkogrod, building a massive temple-Gargant at the exact spot where the Emperor and Primarchs gathered during the Ullanor Triumph centuries earlier. The Beast used Ullanor as a template to perfect his Attack Moon concept, converting the entire world into a battlestation that would eventually be used to destroy Terra.

Eventually, the Imperium under the returned Vulkan led a second invasion of Ullanor to slay The Beast. This battle was far different than the first Imperial crusade, seeing the Imperials fight bitter urban warfare against an enemy that refused to fight out in the open. Vulkan eventually was able to lead an Astartes strikeforce into Gorkogrod's temple-gargant, where he dueled The Beast directly. After seemingly sacrificing himself to slay The Beast, Ork resistance on Ullanor crumbled.

The Greenskin presence on Ullanor once again endured however, and in the third invasion of Ullanor (though it was the second during the War of the Beast) it was revealed that there were in fact six "Beasts", each a Prime-Ork commanding a "Legion" of Greenskins. Imperial forces were forced to flee the planet after Lord Commander Koorland was killed.

Shortly after the death of Koorland, Maximus Thane led a third and final Imperial invasion of Ullanor. During this attack, the Imperials used redirected asteroids to devastate the planet. Using the Sisters of Silence in conjunction with a captured Ork Psyker, The Beast was slain.[5] After the war Thane, now Lord Commander, ordered that the Adeptus Mechanicus enact Exterminatus on Ullanor to erase it from history and prevent a new Beast from ever arising. However Fabricator-General Kubik coveted the Greenskin artifacts on the world, and instead used his reverse-engineered Ork teleportation technology to teleport
Ullanor to a secret location in Segmentum Solar, which later became Armageddon".

This is incredible. How have I never heard of this before? Ullanor is where Horus was given command of the Armies of the imperium & the famous depiction of the primarchs is from:

What is hidden on Armageddon that Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka & the mechanicus are so obsessed with?

Yep. Also interesting is that in the new teaser, khorne is coming back to Armageddon (fingers crossed daemon Angron model).

Clearly there is something on Armageddon worth fighting for... Or maybe fighting is it's own reward.

We really shouldn't have named a planet after an apocalyptic conflict.

Any Ork fanatics have any theories/speculation as to what ork artifacts could be buried here? Whatever it is, it seems like a BIG deal. Why else would Kubik of the mechanicus spare Ullanor from exterminatus & basically commit treason against the imperium? Could something from Gork/Mork be buried on Armageddon? Perhaps something that was left there from the Ullanor Crusade?

Those orks are known for gravity manipulation, teleportation and webwaytunnelesque travel on the scale of planets.. They where also the most advanced orks civilization known to humanity. Who knows what weapons designs of the old ones these fungoid bioweapons started to replicate with their unlocked racial memory. Some of the technology buried there might surpass the best Necron and Eldar tech currently available.

Not sure what is on Armageddon but when you look at previous events, see episodes 1, 2 and 3 (ongoing), something has Khorne and the Orks worked up.

Also, Yarrick found his fame there and caught the eye of Ghazghull. Mephiston became his current incarnation. Grimaldus was breaking heads.

Also, as the new warp rent has left Armageddon within the side of segmentum solar something big will kick off fo' sure.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Let's look through the major events that went on there.

1. The Ullanor Crusade.

A massive warboss the likes hasn't been seen before appears on Ullanor. Numerous Legions, led by the Emperor Himself and his Custodian Guard, converge on the planet. The Mechanicus Terrforms the planet to accomodate the scale of the conflict. During the battle, Horus and his Justaerin (including Abaddon) defeat the Warboss and his Meganob retinue. Horus is named Warmaster and the rest is history.

2. The Beast, the greatest warboss ever, is based on Ullanor.

3. Khorne sends his greatest Daemon Prince, Angron of the World Eaters, to Armageddon, the relocated and renamed Ullanor.

4. Ghaz, the Prophet of the Waaagh! instinctively heads to ArmaUllanor to lead his green jihad.

So, what we can assume from this is this: Chaos identified Ullanor as an important world for all of history. Tzeentch orchestrates the original warboss to go there, setting up Horus' victory and rise and fall as Warmaster.
The Beast feels the psychic resonance of his ancestor (assuming that the beast grew from a spore that wasn't destroyed when the planet relocated) and leads his Waaagh!, drawing on the Waaagh! psychic presence resonating in the Warp to ascend to his status that he had.
The importance put on Ullanor by these two events leaves a massive psychic residue in the Warp, marking it out like a beacon to the inhabitants of the Warp. Angron and his legions are drawing to this like a moth to a flame and Armageddon I occurs. Mephiston is tempted by Daemons of Khorne and using the massive psychic energy present, uses it to overcome the Black Rage. Perhaps the spirit of Sanguinius sought him out through this thin point between realms and aided him, or tempted him in the guise of that Daemon. Grimaldus survives through his sheer force of will and the psychic resonance helps protect him through faith. Perhaps in a similar vein, the Emperor is able to reach out and gift him through the thinness between dimensions because of his faith.
Finally, Ghaz senses the raw Waaagh! energy that has course through that world, and is drawn to it by instinct. World Waaagh! II and III and so on.

Basically, the world itself was never important, it was a random world, but Chaos manipulations forced events to take place on it that would levae lasting effects in the Warp, drawing both Orks and Chaos to it over the years.

I would also say that due its significance and name, this will be the final battle of the 40k universe. The true Time of Ending. Its name might also resonate in the warp and events come to pass as such.

Raises a question..

Gaxzy had teleport tech in 3rd war did he not. That was after his first invasion. Now what if he invaded the old ork capital to secure the teleporter tech.

In 3rd war he used to great effect.
So this makes gazzy look a step above most warbosses in cunning and killing.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

It is known how he got his tellyporta.

Over the next few years, Ghazghkull allied with another prominent Ork Warboss, Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub, known for having the best Mekboyz in the galaxy in his employ. Nazdreg's Mekboyz were particularly well known for their tellyporta technology, something Ghazghkull coveted deeply. Thus Ghazghkull struck a deal with Nazdreg, helping him against the Dark Angels during the Battle of Piscina IV in exchange for the secrets of the Tellyporta.[2b]

it strikes me as more likely the world simply has a draw to orcs as their "ancestral homeworld" meanwhile the planets bloody battle filled hsitory makes it a draw to Khrone

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Personally, I'd think they'd be after Oberon: the ol' Ordinatus Armageddon, being a ground based Nova Cannon that oneshots Emperor class and larger Titans.
