Hi Chaps!

So it has been a long old time since I played any LOTR and I never was very clear on the rules.

I have a box of Moria goblins hanging around, is there anything I can do with them in the current game?
Really I don't want to be constrained to just playing Moria goblins and Cave Trolls but would like to play a more generic 'Evil' army including orks and men. Is this even possible?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Cheers
Kroem

Were there be dragons....

I would heartily recommend joining the Great British Hobbit League Facebook page.
Allying is part of the game system so you can create alliances of men and orcs if you wish.

It is in a very purgatory like state.

Its only from their website, but stuff that's been out of stock has been out of stock for awhile.

I don't think the prices are too crazy being only direct still.

For it to have any survival and not be fully dead though they do need to have the ability for stores to order it and give it some kind of resurgence, or just let it go

Huh? Games in a resurgence right now. Oop models are being reintroduced and it's getting regular monthly releases from Forge World. True a lot of the stuff is direct only, but it's still one of the cheapest games available by far.

In regards to OP, Mordor is by far the most varied army in the game. You can stick to orcs or you can have Harad, Khand, Easterlings, Umbar (all of which can be run as armies on their own) all under the Mordor banner and still be a themed list.

It's certainly worth joining the GBHL page, and maybe taking a look at their youtube channel - they did a sourcebook breakdown, talking about all the different armies and their units. That could be useful.

By no means is the game dead - and every new/returning gamer is another little boost that will hopefully keep it going for even longer.

An orc and men list is very possible - and of course, there's no rule that you can only have one army. Often, people will have a couple of armies, I myself have several!

And also, welcome back!

Yeah, it was kinda dead a few years ago, but it's getting new models, new books, even new plastic terrain kits. Not quite a dead game with new monthly releases

Thanks for the tips everyone, I guess that I with have to abandon my current Moria goblins if I wanted to have a more varied force which is a shame.
I'm really not bothered by the size of the 'scene'. I just want some models to push around with my mates whilst singing the LOTR music haha!

Oop models coming back is a bit of good news though, perhaps the 'Wildmen of Dunland' blister pack will make a return. I always wanted some of those back in the day.

Forgeworld releasing new things is also good, but they are copying the style of the CGI orcs from the hobbit which I really don't like the look of.
The GW Mordor orcs were out of stock last time I went on their website as well!

I noticed the Mordor orcs were out too, last time I placed an order - though I wouldn't worry too much, I expect they will be restocking soon-ish. And of course, GW going out of stock tells them that there's demand, so that's always good.

If you are interested in Orcs, you could do worse than pick up some Morannon orcs - they're pretty nice models, and their stats are good too. And hopefully, once you finish those, the regular orcs will be available again

Im not calling it dead, limping perhaps but not dead.

It moving to Forgeworld to keep it going is good, but it doesn't help the availability of models really. Annoying turn around and high prices getting it from the UK to US.

One of the cheapest gw games* Cheapest goes to SWA currently til they do another skirmish game.

I love LOTR, but this has really moved to a "Better if your in the UK" game then world wide game. Im stuck really to scourge ebay or bartertown for the chance people have it cheap they are willing to sell off.

This year we've just seen the very first ETC tournament with 72 players from all over Europe. Next year.we will see a new rulebook - middle-earth strategy game.
Game is still popular and widely played, more than many other system. Because it is GOOD.

Any evil units can be combined with any other evil units. When it comes down to it, there are only two factions in the game; good and evil.

For your Moria Goblins you just need one hero from the goblin list (named character or generic captain) for every 12 Warriors to be legal. You could then combine that with up to 12 Warriors plus a hero from the Mordor list, then 12 Warriors and a hero from the Isenguard list.

Its certainly not dead, I thought it would be once the final Hobbit film came out but GW seems to be supporting it as much as they can - I doubt we shall see any more plastic kits as I guess they are to expensive to produce for the return on sales.

Still there is also a pretty thriving facebook group called the Great British Hobbit League and a Facebook trading group specifically for LOTR as well so both are worth joining as a starting point.

Ah fantastic, that's exactly what I wanted to hear! With a new rule book coming out next year I have plenty of time to paint some models as well.
