I haven't been able to get Inferno yet and am hesitant to buy it with 8th coming out soon. However, I know a bit from reading the forum here and Lexicanum and it seems that they give drastically different numbers for the Thousand Sons than the novel and I was wondering what you all thought of it. While seeing the Legion grow stronger is nice I think I personally prefer them being just over 10,000 marines since it would make their psychic might all the more prominent and thus easier to distrust if 10,000 marines are doing the job of legions ten times their size.

I don't think the novel claimed a specific size, that said I'd trust inferno for specific numbers as A Thousand Suns was written in the comparitive early days of the ehresy before legion details where fully fleshed out

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two |

According to page 32 of the Inferno Book, there were 80,000 - 90,000 Thousand Sons at the time Properso was attacked, however only 62,000 were on the Planet at the time, the other 18,000 - 28,000 Thousand Sons were sent away with a Portion of the Fleet by Magnus.
I don't think the book actually records the number of Thousand Sons that escaped the actual fight. But with 10,000 years of rebuilding by various recastings of the Rubric and the ability to bring back lost Thousand Sons, there's no reason to see them as a sizeable legion. The assault of Fenris in the Wrath of Magnus book, suggested thousands upon Thousands of Rubrics were involved in he fight.

I was happy that they were expanded and left with lots of room for custom forces.
My own Thousand Sons are from the 6th fellowship stationed on Zhao Arkhad during the burning.

Recasts are like Fight Cub. No one talks about it, but more people do it then you realize.
Armies.
Luna Wolves 4,000 Points
Thousand Sons 4,000 Points. |

Given most legions stood at 150k + I believe they where smaller. Ultras biggest at nearly quarter of a million but others where not small.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |

I think later prints of A Thousand Sons have had the Legion strength adjusted. I'll try and confirm. Inferno is obviously the more correct.
