So I was playing a game against Slaanesh Chaos space marines yesterday and thought the way my opponent was playing the army was... a little weird. So here are a few things that happened during the match:
EVERYTHING had a 4+ feel no pain from the chaos marines to the possessed and the daemon princes... now I know a 5+ is doable with a banner? but I cannot for the life of me figure out how everything in his army got it.
He was able to summon the exact same deamon prince that I had already killed in a different spot on the board. with I10 S10 like 8 attacks.... he said it was because of a boon table and posession however he didnt roll any psychic dice, just happened after the first one died.

anyone have any insight as to what he was using that allows this? I never thought slaanesh was this strong

P.S. obviously he didnt have a codex on him and none of his models were WYSIWYG so.... made believing this a bit difficult.

A lucky roll on a boon table can generate a prince (killing the character that rolled it )
Princes have good stat lines. Not That good though.

Greetings Supreme Overlord,
While the daemon prince shenanigans do sound suspect, the 4+ army-wide FNP is very explicable, as it is in Traitor Legions. If your opponent was fielding an Emperor's Children detachment, he has a 6+ FNP save as standard, and any units with icons of excess in them have a 4+ FNP.

As for the daemon prince, that does sound a bit suspicious. I can only suggest that a champion of his somehow rolled lucky on the boons table (possibly earlier in the game if he only had one DP model) and as for the boosted stats, it does sound very suspect. He can roll on combat drugs, which may explain why one of his statistics was higher than normal, but DPs can't roll on the boons table unless targeted by Gift of Mutation (a Tzeentch power, so probably not that!)

Alternatively, your opponent summoned a Keeper of Secrets, which does have that exact statline. This seems more likely, and he probably just used the DP model to play the KoS. Bit dodgy about the psychic dice though.

I'd advise you to keep a careful on this player in the future, and maybe insist that he brings a rulebook? There's so many rules for chaos marines in Traitor Legions - I wouldn't leave home without the book for a game!

Do you know what your sin is, Malcolm Reynolds?
Ah hell, I'm a fan of all seven.
But right now, I'm gonna have to go with wrath.

If his marines had the slaanesh banner and he was using the emps children legion then they would have fnp4+ only a biomancy psy power (i think) would give a csm prince a 4+ fnp, as to the respawning prince that involves mega luck on the boon table and winng a challenge to do so or a tzeench spell. Other wise for csm i cant think of another way.

Though i reserve the right to be wrong.

yea, after playing that game I pretty much "hung up the gloves" for 7th ed. I'll wait till 8th to play him again and ask that WYSIWYG and rulebiooks are present.

As has been mentioned, just being emperors children will confer a 6+ fnp on everything with Veterans of the Long War, so basically everything MEQ/TEQ.
Units with an Icon instead have a 4+ fnp (they still need VotLW). Not everything can take an icon, but that's not to say there is a lack of untis that can, so yea, that part could easily be the case.

As for the prince, very suspicious. It's possible if he rolls multiple boons from gift of mutation and gets the combat drugs relic on top of the decurion and gets the right warlord trait.
A prince has has S6 I8 and 5 attacks base and being a slaanesh prince doesn't affect that. With the warlord trait and multiple boons and the combat drugs relic AND being in their decurion, he could get +2 initiative for the trait, putting him at 10.
Plus 3 Strength for the relic and +1 from boons to reach S10 and then gain the battalion drug roll on attack as well as the boon for 8 attacks (on the charge).

Even then however, he still wouldn't have a 4+ fnp. It would be a 6+ or 5+ with the warlord trait, but then he won't have that stat line. Nor is it possible to summon a prince.
It's possible to summon greater daemons, but that requires sacrificing the psyker who manifested the power and none of those have S10. The Keeper of secrets has I10 and while I think it's possible to have 8 attacks on the charge, that's not terribly likely either.
I also find it odd that he would have said something about boons and possession. Boons being a completely separate thing to possession, possession being the sacrifice I mentioned.

A psyker that rolls on boons and is later removed to summon a greater daemon does not conver those boons to the greater daemon. Nor would it get the benefits of the combat rolls from the decurion (which still wouldn't be enough to get that statline).
I'm not saying his intentionally bamboozling you, but there is definitely something weird going on there. Also he might have KDK mixed in there, as those don't roll any psychic dice to summon Blood thirsters, but again, nowhere near those stats and I'm pretty sure you would have noticed him keeping track of the bloodtithes XD.

Oh and he might have buffed him with psychic powers but that would have meant you would have gotten the opportunity to deny (same for summoning btw), so yea, weird lol.

Never play someone without a codex. It's ok to question their army, it's definitely not ok that they have no answers to show you.

The Icon of excess? Their 4+ fnp isn't from the icon per se. That only every gives you normal fnp (so 5+), being being an Emperors children unit with the VotLW special rule give the model a 6+ fnp naked, which is replaced with a 4+ when the unit has an icon of excess.
It's the same rule.
"Units that have the Veterans of the Long War special rule have the Fearless and Feel No Pain(6+) special rules(units with an Icon of Excess instead have the Fearless and Feel No Pain(4+) special rules)."

There's no way to have a daemon prince benefit of an icon of Excess either.
