OK, serious business this time. I have a better idea in mind now. Just need thoughts/opinions on filling in the details.

The Mortars go in back with one Khemist and possibly an Ark Company to help defend them or intercept chargers.

Admiral, Khemist, 2 Ark Company on the Ironclad.

Rifle Thunderers and Khemist go on Frigate.

Buff everything I can, and shoot like mad.

While I do like this list, you can probably drop a khemist and squeeze in a Sky Warden squadron, or if you can somehow squeeze in a few extra points, some Endrinriggers for ship repairs/fire support

The thing about the Khemist though, is that it can buff 2 units instead of one for Urbaz.

So I'd like to keep one near pairs of units to maximize firepower.

I was thinking of taking Endrinworks or Artefacts to aide with ship healing.

I should be able to take Incredible Self-healing Hull on both ships.

I'd rather put The Last Word on both because you're going to get charged a lot. Self healing hull only works 50% of the time for a single wound restoration.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.

Stack more of the same weapons in a smaller number of units. For the Arkanaut company, either make a unit have all pikes or all hooks and maybe one with a mix; that way you can use the different squads for the purpose they are equipped and are better poised to benefit from Khemist buffs.

On the Thunderers it more depends on how much optimization you want to do. The most competitive way of doing it with this list would be two units of ten, one of them all mortars the other all aethercannons. A more casual version I'd recommend is a unit of 1rifle/4mortar, a unit of 1rifle/4aethercannon, and a unit of 10 rifles. The Khemists buff one weapon one one unit so you want to have all of the same weapon focused on one unit as much as you can. For the two 'specialist' units in both cases the champion would have a rifle since he gets 2 extra shots with it.

That make sense. I could collapse the Thunderer units into 10.

9 Mortar / 1 Rifle - my pillbox arty unit

1 Ark Co with 3 Skypikes to defend them as best it can.

10 Rifles in the other "Offensive" Thunderer unit.

The other 2 Ark Co would be all Skyhooks.

you might want to make a slight tweek to the Endrinriggers, since you need to include the Volley Gun if you want to bring a Grapnel Launcher

Why is that?

According to the wording you need to buy both a Volley Gun and another specialist weapon. At least that's how I'm interpreting it

Well let's see...

"For every 3 models in the unit in place of their rivet gun and saw*, 1 may be armed with an Aethermatic Volley Gun and 1 may be armed with either a Skyhook, Drill Cannon or Grapnel Launcher"

I think I see what you mean but it really seems to me like they are two different options. I don't recall any instance where a warscroll has one special weapon require another either. Perhaps most importantly, the sample army on page 64 has a unit of 3 Endrinriggers with just a skyhook upgrade and no volley gun.

*Sidenote; just re-realized how freaking awesome it is to have a unit of flying steampunk dwarves who fight with a rivet gun and power saw.

The thing is looking at the other warscrolls it seems odd that it is specifically pointing out one specialist weapon, that and the rules are only found in the endrinrigger and skywarden warscrolls.

The way I'm reading it is that if you want to use a specialist weapon you can change one of them to have a volley gun, and if you want another specialist weapon you can pick one of the other specialist weapons. At least that's how I'm seeing it.

*Adding on the sidenote; not only are they steampunk dwarves who fight with rivet guns and power saws, but kicking your ass is apparently their hobby since they're only being paid to fix ships and keep the machines running. Also the Endrinmaster fires a cutting beam out of his eye.

I think it's because the volley gun isn't really an upgrade; it just trades in the melee & normal ranged weapon for a slightly better ranged weapon. So if the volley gun competed with the other special weapons it would never be taken since the others are pretty awesome comparatively. Thus they split the volley gun off as its own option, also allowing players to have a more ranged focused unit by giving 2/3 strictly ranged weaponry.

I think of the Endrinmaster as having a tiny luminark in his helmet.

It says for every 3 endrinriggers 1 MAY be armed with an athermatic volly gun and 1 MAY be armed with either a drill cannon....

I don't think the volly gun is a prerequisite but the wording suggests you can take a volly gun and a drill cannon hmmm... interesting
