Greetings everyone!
With the removal of templates for 8th, anyone have any idea how artillery is going to work? Perhaps there is something in AOS that can be used as a reference?
The new dice system for "blasts" seems a little odd for indirect fire. Perhaps they'll just apply the -1 to BS rule for artillery?
Thoughts?

This seems most likely to me, you can still fire indirectly but less accurately. But how will barrage weapons work? Maybe -1/2 to cover and subsequent shots are more accurate than the first? Not exactly sure. :/

I sincerly hope they put something in to account for both barrage and Ordnance. Wether barrage is d6+2, for example, for a large blast and Ordnance being more damage. Or something similar. Otherwise, if large blast artillery just gets the d6 shots it will have a massive nerf.

In AoS, there are some units who can pick a spot on the board, within range, and then hit every unit within a number of inches of that spot. You need to roll to hit each unit separately of course, but this mechanic may make its way in for artillery.

You have made me, my manticores, wyverns and deathstrike very very happy.
The baneblade artillery variant might even get an airing if that's the case.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement. |

Well that'd be a way to keep the "bubble death star" potential in check.
Drop a storm eagle rocket or two on any spot with too many characters and watch them all take d6 hits (At I imagine Str 10 Ap-1 D3 damage)

I am very curious as to how the 8th ed rules for blast templates will effect my army. I play Chaos renegades using the purge formation, griffon tanks, heavy mortars, and chemical flamers make up the bulk of my entire force. Not to mention that the special rule "salt the earth", which my formation gives me, leaves the blast template on the battlefield for dangerous terrain checks.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies. |

I'm thinking that at some point there is going to have to be some sort of sub-system in place for hitting multiple units at once, especially for the Deathstrike in particular. I can't imagine firing the deathstrike's one missile and only wiping out a single 5 or 10 man unit.
