Hi I'm brand new to 40k and though I'd get a head start on models before the new edition comes out. Only one problem I don't know which art to choose, I've narrowed it down to either genestealer cult or adeptus mechanicus. I'm not fussy about each armies difficulty as I like a challenge I just want some advice on which to choose.

I like both. Both permit a braid range for collecting. Cults can collect from tyranids to imperial guard and mech from mech to imperial allies like inquisitors ... These are so different from each other as one will have robots and the other a different sort of monstrous creature... If it were me starting out I would go cult and build the army as two different collections one of IMO guard and the other genestealers and cultists and their vehicles.

Well I like your choices, I would defiantly stick to an army that is quite new so your new army isn't outdated in a few weeks/months.

Adeptus Mechanicus seems more interesting to me with some nice centre piece models.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Heya mate, welcome to DakkaDakka.

My way of picking an army is starting with a HQ. Pick one that you love, as he will be leading your army! Once you have a HQ, pick a couple of cool troops that he can lead. From there maybe an elite of heavy support choice to go with your leader.

Genestealer cult requires a lot more models to get a decent force up and running, so that might make it a bit harder to gather a force for a new dude, though if you are going for a big force it might be good to start collecting them early if you are super keen.

Let ebay make the decision for you. Whoever has the cheaper options on that site, there goes your pick Money is a big obstacle in this hobby, might as well ease that tension.

Welcome to Dakka by the way, I hope you have a good time here.
