not into the look of the scouts heads, anyone have any ideas to replace them with something else?

So far I'm thinking Cadian shock trooper heads as they look a bit better, but still not amazing. regular space marine heads are too big. any other ideas?

Pig Iron Productions heads have been pretty popular as scout head replacements.

dem. those pig iron ones with the masks are awesome. i'm assuming they're kit bashed fairly easily too given how popular they are?

madrobot ones were ok, but comparable to the cadian shock troop heads, which have the added benefit of coming with the right logo on their helmets, so i'm not sure i'd go with these ones, but thank ya.

yeah, i've checked out the scions. they're decent, but sold out everywhere i've seen!

I recommend you go to ebay and search for 40k heads. A LOT to chose from, like a lot, a lot.

Most 40k heads don't fit well on scouts though. I still use my old metal scouts because the new heads are just awful, I've had scout bodies with no heads for several years now searching for just the right fit...

Honestly there is nothing 'comparable'... but there are some good substitutes, like Madrobot, Victoria miniatures, and my favorite Anvil Industries.

For my headless bodies I've finally decided on these: http://anvilindustry.co.uk/Regiments/Infantry-Heads-Helmets/beret-gasmask-veteran-heads

Alright, I think I've narrowed it down to three here.

option 1
http://anvilindustry.co.uk/regiments-medieval-helmet?search=heads

option 2
http://anvilindustry.co.uk/Republic-Grenadier-Heads?search=heads&page=2

or the humble cadian heads that I already have some of, but some of which are derpy.

Which Chapter/Legion are these for and what does the rest of your army look like? ...or is this just a Kill Team for Shadow War Team?

While I like the Cadian (and Tempestus) heads, I think they make the Scouts look too much like IG/AM.

Of your Anvil choice I think I like the 2nd more.

I'm just making my own chapter, colour scheme is pale-greyish-green with light grey as a secondary.
was planning on doing the sergeant's helmets in light grey so they'd stand out a bit from regular troops, which works better for scouts if they actually have helmets (also so they don't have the constipated facial expressions they come with)

I agree option 2 is better than 1.
i'm ok with it looking a bit like IG, I could probably get away with bending the lore behind it since it's a made-up chapter, right? or maybe that'd be lame, idk.

Hey you can do whatever you want with your own chapter! ...that said, you'd never find IG as part of a SM chapter, but it's possible that some cut off campaign forced your units to arm up with whatever armour/weapons they could find? ...or some other reason why your SM scouts are wearing IG equipment or other non-standard equipment even. The enclosed helmet/heads seem like an easy explanation -- toxic home/campaign world etc.

Option 1 - makes me immediately think of a local PDF / Arbite force on a Knight House home world.

Well the Cadian heads will arrive via mail soon, so if they look decent I'll just stick with those instead of ordering the option 2 ones from the uk. I do like how the Cadian one comes with two extra helmets, so I can put those on any other heads I like to give them some more variation.

As far as a backstory, maybe I'll just say my chapter works closely with IG, which is why our scouts wear IG helmets. Does that work? I'm just getting back into 40k and fairly unfamiliar with the lore behind it all.

This thread made me realize that I too am not a fan of the scout heads and the pig iron suggestion made me realize that I NEED some scouts with boonie hats! Just like Native American Billy, their "scout" in Predator...

I'd not do IG, they're going to look weird as hell. If you want Tempestus heads... The gas mask ones are rare now (thankfully I got mine way back when I did). The beret ones are less so: http://www.ebay.com/itm/40K-Astra-Militarum-Tempestus-Scions-Heads-Beret-Heads-Bits-8-Bitz-/192170740593?hash=item2cbe44cb71:g:0X0AAOSwX61ZAkcc

check out the gas mask heads from Secret Weapon miniatures too. Those would look kind of intense and should be a perfect fit.

I've ordered a box of them for that purpose as some of the other pieces in there look useful too, once I've finished kitbashing I'll throw a few pictures up.
