Back when I was a young 'un and living out in the sticks in Africa, I played my first ever computer game (well, second technically, I'd actually played Muppet Treasure Island before with me mam aged 7, but that was a co-op experience. ). Sadly, I have absolutely no idea what it was called, and never saw it again. So I'm hoping my friendly neighbourhood Dakkaites can help indulge my touch of nostalgia and identify it for me.

Essentially, it was some kind of mech game for the PC. You could do it on multiplayer or on some form of campaign mode. When you did a VS multiplayer though, you were in some sort of maze which had icons for various vehicles and power ups scattered around. Each time you activated one of the vehicle icons, it would spam out a helicopter or a tank to traverse the maze and attack the other player.

I must have spent a whole afternoon playing it (this was back in what, 2000/2001?) , but I never saw it again. Any ideas from my vague childhood memories?

I still own my copy of that game for the PS1. But I'm familiar with the MAC and PC versions, which had the multiplayer. It came out around 1998. Despite the good reviews, the game only sold around 200,000 copies across all platforms.

In the game, the mech (called the "X1-Alpha") could transform between a walker and a hover vehicle. It was a frustrating game at times, but it was still a fun way to kill some time in the evening.
