"The Star Trek Discovery series is still a few months out before airing on CBS. But until then, we’ve got what looks like the next best thing: Seth MacFarlane’s spoof of the franchise, The Orville."
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
"the play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king,
Looks decent. I wonder if they will indulge MacFarlane's penchant for song and dance numbers.

This is about as close as we're likely to get - and Seth is funnier than Tim Allen, so bonus.
Is that 'Seth is funnier than Tim Allen' in the same way that 'shattering all the bones in both your arms is less painful and debilitating than shattering all the bones in both your arms and legs'??? :p

Tim Allen is hit or miss, though that ratio seems to get worse the longer he is doing things, but I thought he was fine in Galaxy Quest. Not as fine as Sigourney Weaver of course, but he did alright.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Likewise I don't rate him, but his Shatner homage/parody in GQ was unmatched till Chris Pine in the Trek reboot
Really not sure this will last past a season, I'm not sure genre satire can be sustained for a TV run

Depends. Could be like Futurama, it's own universe and characters and so on, with the occasional riff on SF tropes.
Like most TV, the series will live or die on the strength of the writing and characters.

Look, you're a 'murican, so I know I'll probably have to make allowances for that.
I'll speak slower if it helps.
I get that humour is subjective - but I've never found Tim Allen to be funny. His caveman antics may be up your alley, but it just doesn't work for me.
Maybe if he did a show without a laugh track ...
I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I enjoyed GQ, but it was despite TA, not because of it.
(I enjoyed it more because it was a complete piss-take of Star trek FANDOM in general, not just because it ripped the p*ss out of trek).

You know movies are also called shows right? It is why when you look up the times that a film shows is called a showtime. It isn't that different than using various terms for drinks like pop, soda, cola, ect. Also I was being a bit silly so try unbunching those panties and taking a deep breath.

Showtime is also the name of the LA Lakers offence starring 'magic' johnson and kareem abdul jabar that won 5 championships in the 80's.
Reading the comments above, think a lot of this will come down to whether you find the Family Guy/American Dad brand of comedy funny or not.
Am a massive fan of the animated shows, and loved Ted (as well as Star Trek, while not taking it seriously enough to be offended by satire) so guess I am the target group for this

If Duane Dibley is anything to go by, you also appear to be a fan of sci-fi comedy.
In a perfect world, this show will be a low-brow American take on the niche occupied by Red Dwarf and Futurama.
