So I am a new player with about 4 actual games under my belt(3-1 record so far, you know for Russ), and I recently got a huge addition to my army which I have probably close to 5000 points all together now. I am wondering what kind of formations I should look into and what units should I make a point to always carry with me(other then ThunderWolf Cav.) Here is my complete list and I am open to any ideas on builds, as I am also wondering what kinda point values I should be aiming for since my highest value game was at 1900 and already took a fair amount of time. (sorry for misspells ahead of time I am at work and don't have my codex with me to correct myself.)

HQ
Wolf Lord
Bjorn the Fell-Handed
Ulrik the Slayer
Njall the Stormcaller in term. armor
Rune Priest in term. armor
Iron Priest
Wolf guard battle leader

Elite
Dreadnaught x1
Wolf guard x5
Wolf Guard Terminators x5
Wolf Scouts x12 (one is wgpl in battle armor w/ storm shield)
Wulfen x5

Troops
25 models of Grey hunters (one is a wgpl in term. armor)
20 models of Bloodclaws (one wgpl in term. armor)
Lucas the trickster

Fast Attack
Thunder Wolf Cavalry x6
Fernisian Wolves x10
StormWolf x1

Heavy
Long Fangs x12 (one is wgpl in Term. armor)
Land Raider x1

Lord of War
Logan Grimnar

I am mostly looking for some fun formation and detachments compositions I could work, or if it would just be better to keep going unbound (since my unbound army beat up my roommates Dark Angels and their crazy formations pretty bad.) Thanks in advance for helping me wolf my wolfs!

It's a great collection, you only need some drop pods/rhinos/razorback for your troops and dreads. I'd suggest to add 3-5 drop pods and then you would be able to play a lot of different nice lists even with huge formats (like 2500 points).

Use the land raider to transport terminators or wulfen and the stormwolf to carry the same units or even a big blob of blood claws joined by ulrik and/or lukas.

Thank you for some input. I was wondering if drops would be a good way to go with it. So you think that's all I am missing really?

The majority of SW players use only thunderwolves, characters on thunderwolves, rune priests (mostly on bikes) and wulfen, but with the new edition deathstars should belong to the past and we won't see those kind of lists anymore.

I don't know if in the upcoming edition ground transports like rhinos or razorback would have the edge over drop pods to be honest, but I certainly prefer pods and dreads can't have any other transport. But if you prefer tanks you can certainly go with them.

Wolf guard, blood claws and grey hunters can't go on foot and absolutely need a transport. With the land raider and the stormwolf you can guarantee a ride for some units, and with a few more transports you can chose a lot of different options for your lists.

Adding something else? I don't know, I love wulfen and I always play their formation which means at least 10 of them. Maybe 1-2 speeders can also be useful. But you listed a large collection of SW which allows you to play several nice combinations. Only a few transports are really needed in my opinion, anything else is optional. And the 8th edition is very close to be released, that's why some units that are ace now (like thunderwolves and wulfen) can be nerfed and I wouldn't suggest to buy them (and you already got these units) until the new SW codex is released.

Wait till 8th comes out to do/buy anything that isn't 100% based on how cool it is.

Games take time some take a long time, some take a longer time.
I've had kill team matches that lasted the better part of a day.
If you want to drop Dreads you gotta look at Lucius Pods, they're great.
Keep an eye on ebay - you can never have too many Rhino chassis.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

thanks for the input everyone, sounds like waiting for 8th is most important, and transports are needed.

You've got a great selection to choose from, and you'll find that you can form them into any number of detachments and formations. I'd echo the sentiment that you'll probably want to hold off on any major purchases until 8th ed. drops. However, there are two areas you could beef up if you're itching to:

-Drop Pods: super useful, and one of the best tools at the Wolves' disposal. It's rare that I won't have at least one in my army list, and I typically use 3-5. I'm particularly fond of dropping in a Rune Priest (as part of a Wyrdstrom Brotherhood, using the Eye of the Storm to nuke a high-value target) or Wolf Guard (5-man team with combi-meltas), which brings me to our next point:

-Combi-weapons: I have yet to purchase a SW kit that includes any combi-weapons. I try as hard as I can to play What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get, so I really like my guys with combis to actually have combis. Get them through trades with other players, sites that sell bits, or box sets that include them (the SM veteran squad is great; has a lot of weapons you don't get in SW sets plus other fun stuff you can kit-bash with).

my starter set and long fangs pack came with some combis, I have used some but honestly I have been avoiding using plasma in anything do to a couple silly rolls where I keep killing myself. am I overreacting due to an abnormal amount of 1 rolls and killing of my own troops? or should I put the plasmas back in and work with em. keeping in mind I primarily fight other space marines, although one is chaos alpha legion.

Also I seem to gear my forces mostly to hit in melee combat, which has gotten me into some tight spots sometimes but has prevailed mostly, should I spend more time gearing for ranged combat? or leave my long fangs as my ranged and keep trying to force my other troops into close combat?
