Try Something Different: Licensed Products at Warhammer Fest

While they’re certainly the focus of Warhammer Fest, miniatures – and the rules and background for them – aren’t the only products you can explore at Warhammer Fest this year.

You’ll also find a whole world of other products featuring Games Workshop’s brands including Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Blood Bowl. A fantastic array of these Licensed Products will be found in the main Jaguar Hall this year.

No matter your preference, there’s sure to be something to interest you in the Licensing pavilion.

– Try out over a dozen new and unreleased video games on PC, console and mobile platforms, including the new Dawn of War III PC game.

– Step right into the Old World with Vermintide VR, and see if you measure up to join Saltspire and his team.

– Meet the artists behind Titan Comics’ Warhammer 40,000 and Blood Bowl Comics.

– See the prototype for a two foot tall Deathwing statue.

– Discover the future of Games Workshop related table-top roleplay games.

– Find out more about Dawn of War III & Total War: Warhammer in the “Bringing the Lore to Life” in-depth seminars.

It’s not long now until May 27th and 28th, so make sure you’ve got your tickets, and we’ll see you there.

We need coverage of warhammer fest on multiple fronts!

EDIT:
Confirmed new edition of WHFB RP. WIll be showcased at warhammer fest.

A new edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay will be launched by Cubicle 7 Entertainment later this year. The new edition will return players to Warhammer's grim world of perilous adventure, and takes its direction from the first and second editions of the game.
Cubicle 7 CEO Dominic McDowall said, "Like so many gamers I grew up on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. It's an iconic setting and I'm thrilled to be working on this new edition of the game. Our team have a huge breadth of experience with Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and I’m excited to be able to bring the Cubicle 7 approach to the Old World. We’ll be revealing more of our plans in the coming months, so subscribe to our newsletter and keep an eye on our website!”

Presumably as opposed to computer/console RPGs.....

interesting if that licence is being talked about again (please don't be an MMO if it is this time so there's at least a chance of a release)

You can roleplay as 18 different flavors of Space Marines!

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

It's mostly to make a distinction with the computer. Which makes me think. IF they feel like making that distinction, does it mean that one of the new games is going to be an RPG? I'd be very onboard with it.

Remember that Dark Heresy started out as a GW release. It wasn't until after the initial batch of products were out that everything got reissued with the FFG logo.

I'd heard that Cubicle 9 had picked up the rights for the Warhammer Fantasy RPG, would be nice if they were also doing a 40k RPG. Their "The One Ring" RPG is one of the nicest sets of books I own.

I've said in the past, I'd be happy if GW's plans for the RPGs at this time was just reprints. Keeps the game alive and out there.

Ugh if there is a HH rpg before a generic play anything you want 40k rpg I will gak post for days man. People will be annoyed.

I want something new. Playing 18 different flavors of marines is not what I would say is new or interesting. I have Deathwatch and it is one of the greatest rpg's of all time. That and only war is really good.

Edit
DoW 3 lol. That game is so bland.

If memory serves right I think that was misinformation spread up by Zweihandler, whom were the main distributors of this info. I'm not sure why though.

As someone probably best placed to have an inkling, did the terms of FFG's license allow that?

If my knowledge isn't off, I think it's common that anything created under license ultimately belongs, IP wise, to whomever issued the license, rather than the licensee?

It's Cubicle 7, but yeah this was on EN World awhile ago:

Yeah, you just confirmed my hunch. It's all Zweihandler's fault and misinformation.

I was just talking to my RPG group about how the hype train for a new 40K has made me wish they'd give us a new RPG with a system that didn't eventually start feeling like a punishment to play. I'll be keeping an interested ear out on this.

Just fantasy from the look of it, folk on the cubicle 7 form reported the publisher on the WFRP stuff on drive through RPG changed from FFG to cubicle 7(only 2nd ed stuff?),

but none of the 40K RPG stuff changed so they probably don't have that licence

Not exactly. It depends on what the contract says. A smart IP owner will make sure that this sort of thing is explicitly hammered out in the contract, with as little room for loopholes as possible. Otherwise, you could accidentally end up with a situation like Angela in the comic book Spawn.

All that I saw announced was fantasy. Logical progression would be to go to 40K if fantasy does well. We'll see what happens.

Most likely FFG owns the actual work they created, and GW owns the WHF and 40K properties themselves. So GW can't just reprint the books FFG made, but neither can FFG because they don't have the rights to the trademarks or the integral material GW already has under copyright.

It will be interesting to see if they license it out again to a third party, and what form that takes. Another Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay would be nice, but will they instead try to come up with an RPG in the AoS setting - which would certainly help in understanding what the setting actually is.

If someone licences a product from GW and makes a game that you're personally not interested in you're going to gak up the thread to annoy other people here out of spite?

Yeah, don't do that.

It will be nice to get some solid information on Warhammer and W40K licensing "from the horse's mouth."

As for system, I'd be surprised if Cubicle 7 didn't do their own system. T.S. Luikart is one of their designers, and he was involved in the old Black Industries days. I'm sure he has opinions on the subject.
