Fake Englandland

So, coming up in a couple of days is my local store tournament, and I was wondering what you guys thought of the list I'm thinking of bringing

2x 'thug life y-Wings, TLTs and Unhinged astromech for 50 points

Assaj Venttress
VI, Gyroscopic Targeting, Title, Dengar, Rigged Cargo Cute, Glitterstim.- 49 points

So I have the extra point for an initiative bid, and I have flown a similar list to this one once, but I was wondering if anyone out there had ideas for improvements I could make to this list

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Maybe K4 over Dengar, I think output wise they are on par but K4 lets you 'bank' rerolls on good roll / no shot turns

Still not sold on Shute, maybe another Stim and drop the i-bid

I don't think the initiative bid helps asajj (even at ps8) all that much.

I'd be tempted to get something for a surprise maneuver (burnout slam or inertial dampers) or something like emp, feedback or a second g-stim over the chute... even bmst for occasions when you don't need to spend the enemy stress on defense.

But I fly imps, so what do I know?

Thanks for the suggestions, I would take a second Glitterstim, but I only have the one card of it, making that a little hard to do, but I think I'll swap it out for a BMST. I think overall Dengar might be a better crew member with how many unique pilots I deal with, so having what is most likely two guaranteed rerolls per shot is nice, though K4 is often a go to crew member for me

Latts Razzi is the crew member that lets you do that

BMST is definitely the way to go, I don't get the inclusion of the title though its pretty pricey with no real way of leveraging it in my eyes. With Ketsu crew or attacks other than TLTs it has a place but in your list it just doesn't seem worth it, I think I would drop it and VI in exchange for Expertise and loose the Stim in favour of burnout slam/ID.

How so? The list has plenty of leverage from those TLT attacks. Even if you don't deal additional damage that tractor beam token can sure make it more likely that the TLT hits, and can even pull a ship out of the donut hole occasionally. Even just putting a ship onto a rock can be a game-changing event. And remember, you aren't giving up damage like you would with normal tractor beams, the tractor beam effect is in addition to your normal damage.

What you say is perfectly true but it is worth bearing in mind that you have to hit, be at range 1-2 and have the enemy in your mobile arc, where as Expertise is permanently on meaning you can spend your action on BMST (where applicable, how I wish Assaj gave stress earlier!) an evade or a defensive focus. Combined with Dengar that is a whole heap of modification for both offense and defence.

The range 1 hole for the TLT is always a problem but flying that list one is surely using the SC and other TLT to cover the gap and with the cap on damage I reckon that the improved damage for the SC is a better option than a situational benefit from the tractor. I suppose my wording was not the most exact but I am sure you see my point, no?

Of course it is also very local meta dependant due to their showing at Worlds I am seeing a lot fewer Palp Aces and Commonwealth defenders around, which the TLT was so good at countering and where a TB was useful (its only Fenn that seems to be out in force of all the green dice dependant ships). Bar the times you can roll someone onto a rock (how frequent is that?) I just reckon its better to hit harder and have the option of using defensive tokens.

Not actually true. Stress control shuts it down and makes it an expensive blank card. It's a good option, but I think people often assume more from it than you actually get.

It's not all that frequent, but it makes a huge difference in planning maneuvers. Remember, your stress control already makes a pretty big no-fly zone, and now on top of that your opponent has to make sure they don't leave any ships in a position where they can be tractor beamed onto rocks. They can avoid the tractor beam, but at what cost?

The no fly zone thing is an interesting point but it is exactly the same as the title requires (range 1-2, mobile arc) which I suppose if you can catch them in it is pretty good but if they are going all out to stop getting caught there then that's a lot of wasted potential in your list. It is just so situational that I really don't see it being worth the three points that it costs.

Your point on expertise is well taken though, especially with a resurgence in stress builds, although it is also worth bearing in mind the SC dials synergy with the gyros as you have a lot of green at speed three.

Other than contradicting me though you have not given any sort of advice, in yours eyes do you think that the build here is the best way of flying Asajj? What would you change?

The only variant I would entertain would be to maybe switch out VI and the Chute and scrounge an extra point for PTL. The jump from PS6 to PS8 is important, but if you want to have that Evade+Focus consistently, that might be the way to go. For more than a turn I mean.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And I'd say Burnout SLAM is more of a Ketsu option than an Asajj thing, especially if you have the title. I get that sometimes you have to get the hell out of dodge, and that is just perfect for that... but it's like planning to manoeuvre badly.

Its been a couple of days since the tournament, and ended up keeping the title and vi, and despite not working once, took BMS. I think it was a good experience for my first time at a serious tournament, even if I ended up in 16th out of 28 players, bad rolls happened, and my first round was abysmal unfortunately

Not a bad showing at all mate, what did you fly against?

The first round was against Asaj, Teroch, and Fenn Rau, all with mindlink, title cards on the protectorates and autothrusters on Fenn, it was a pain to deal with and I scored a flat zero points due to awful rolls and fenn rau happening in my general direction, though it was fun to stress everyone and attempt to use BMST on Rau when he was in range for an action even if it did nothing. The guy I flew against was good though, I put that loss entirely on me.

Round two was with a local guy I play against a lot, he had ghost with kanan jarrus as the pilot, two recon specialists and Zeb in the phantom with Shara Bey and that astromech that lets you modify someone's attack dice, it went alright at first, the ARC died in the second round of shooting, but Ghost got good shots in with primary and the TLTs, and I was unable to destroy it unfortunately before he got through my stuff, but got a decent score from that game.

Round Three was against 3 Heavy Scyks with Mangler Cannons, two of them had Stealth Device, and the Quad Jumper with the constable, conner net, other stuff I don't remember. The guy I was playing against was really cool, but it was easy enough to deal with him, barrel roll one of the scyks onto a rock so it can't shoot or into ventres's ship, TLTs, few rounds in the board was nice and clean, and I hadn't lost a ship, or half from ventress. He seemed to want to connor net multiple ships and leave them adrift to get picked apart by the Scyks, but no battle plan survives contact with the enemy.

Last game was against Dengar and Rau, the guy out flew me with Rau and Dengar had a lot of natural two evades, but I was able to get some points by getting Dengar, only thing that really screwed me was when ventress got shot by Advanced Protons, shot Dengar, got shot back and died. Overall, not my worst, but Rau flew circles around me.

For a first time at a tournament, I think it went alright, but I could have done better.

For your general knowledge, you can't have the same bomb token affect more than one ship. You have to choose which one triggers it, but it can only ever be one.

Thanks, I normally don't use bombs, so I am not super familiar with the rules for them

Cheers for the write up mate, sounds like you had some bad luck and bad match ups! except the Syck game, that must have been fun. Are you happy with how your list played out?

I am happy with how the list played, it went as I was hoping, though I wish I did remember a few things, but I would use it again.
