Hello dakkanoughts

I have just picked up a box of the cataphractii terminators for my death guard legion.

Just wanted to ask what loadouts people feel are best for 5 man squad to start with. I have gone with a heavy flamer for sure being death guard but unsure on the remaining 4 models.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Thank you

8th for me is irrelevant currently, I'm just looking for loadouts for the current edition.

Consider 8th when it's released, Thank you for the fast response and would love any 7th loadouts you may have

What job do you want the unit to do? I personally give mine chainfists as the rest of my list struggles against av14.

I'd wait until 8th edition drops as well.

If you don't wait, then the next piece of information we need in order to help you is what Legion are you playing, and what RoW are you using, and finally, do you have a Transport for the Terminators, or are they somehow deep striking onto the table?

Remember that Cataphractii Terminators can't run, can't sweeping advance, and can't overwatch. They do have a 2+/4++.

For the Death Guard:
Why are you taking regular Legion Terminators when you can use Grave Wardens or Deathshroud? I know there are "official" models for those squads, but there should be nothing stopping you from adding some bits and painting them appropriately.

Cataphractii need some way to get across the board, because they are S-L-O-W. If they are foot slogging, then an ideal load out would be a shooty squad with combi-plasma, P-Fists, and a Plasma Blaster. This gives you the ability to deal with other Terminator units and light vehicles out to 24" as you foot slog across the table.

If you have some kind of transport option, things become more interesting. The 2++ helps you to survive until initiative 1, because there isn't much in the game that is AP 2 and swings at higher then initiative 1. P-fists, chain-fists, and Thunder hammers are very viable. I usually don't take more than one chainfist, simply because one chainfist against any vehicle is usually enough. You also have a lot of p-fists that you can use as well. T-hammers are overpriced, as anything you want to concuss that survives the initial attack is probably already swinging at initiative 1 anyways. Lightning Claws and power weapons are not a good choice unless you are going against non-Terminators or anything with a 2+, unless you can leverage a lot of attacks on them. Even then, it's not really worth it for Death Guard Terminators. If you have a lot of initiative 1 attacks, don't get the Grenade Harness- it's useless. You do have access to Combi-flamers with Chem, but it's up to you if you think you will ever be able to use them. And the types of units you will be facing will get an armor save anyways.

Best all around
1 combi-plasma, chain-fist
1 Plasma-blaster, P-fist
3 combi-plasma, P-fist

Gives you good shooting vs. everything in the game, Get's Hot is easy to overcome with a 2+, and P-fists can insta-kill just about anything. Chain-fist is for the sure kill on a dreadnought or vehicle you might encounter (though 4 p-fists should do the trick too). Bad news: this might not be such a good load out come 8th edition.

That could be a long wait. You'd be better of saying, wait for Forgeworld to announce what they are doing, next weekend. They could say 8th is a couple years down the road, if ever.

As for the OP, I like doing a mix. I'll run a couple power swords, and some fists and chain fists. That way I have an answer for everything, and various initiative levels.

No they are going to translate weapons when 8th hits for people who want to use them in 40k, what we won't get is unit points values and the special rules.

They are going to translate _40k_ units to 8th ed. Only thing that match for 30k are those vehicles that have 40k rules. And then only parts that are usable in 40k.

But for example pretty much every single infantry thing, legion rules, row's(assuming they exists in 8th which isn't sure) etc won't be released.

If you want to wait for 8th ed rules to make decision on loadout you are in for unknown time. Even weapon stats(assuming weapon existed in 40k in 7th ed) won't tell everything. Especially as it can depend on the _rest of the army_ as well.

Not really things like volkite have 40k equivalents and if an autocannon has str 7 -1 rend its easy to see what a reaper will be.

Really waiting a month will tell you how nearly every weapon will translate.

Is there 40k rules for volkite? If not we don't get those.

Also he does not have all the information to make accurate assesment with just weapon stats. What you want on your termies depends, funny that, on rest of the army. For that you need to know stuff like stats of units, legion rules etc. Unless you of course aren't looking for most efficient but then you can do that now already by taking what you think is cool.

If you want efficiency you need ALL info. Something like how his legion plays in 8th ed will affect that a lot.

Hey all.

Thank you for all of the replies, appreciate the information .

so legion wise it is Death guard, and rite of war will mostly be the reaping.

I have some cataphractii terminators simply from the box set and if I ever wanted to try a pride of the legion list or just test a unit out.

I have 10 total, and was going to build say 2 with chainfists, few power fists and few with claws just so I can mix and match.

but thought I would ask for general loadouts that people have tried and tested.

I understand 8th will change things drastically, but for me personally I don't really like aos personally so whilst I will definitely try 8th edition out.

I believe most of my gaming group are mostly wanting to stay with 7th but il wait and see.
