Glad to see it, my Fortress and Vengeance Weapon Batteries have been quite lackluster.

Maybe they'll be scary now, or at least tougher and more of a long term presence.

hopefully strongholds, and stronghold assault are given a little more attention in this edition, I always felt that Imp Fisats and Iron warriors where wasting their chapter tactics.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

'Straya... Mate.

I was a little underwhelmed at first by this news, but considering I have never played a game like this, the thought of my Death Guard lads charging up to assault a fortress sounds awesome!

They also confirmed in the FAQ that you can still take buildings in matched games.

It's on the face book page, here's the quote in question:
Q: Will we still be able to use Fortifications in a Detachment that isn't a Stronghold Assault missions? I always wanted to get an Aquila Strongpoint, but 7th ed Rules made it almost useless (a single penetrating hit and the gun is out of comission for example) and so far the rules seem to make it an actual choice for my Army now.
A: If you mean "is there a way of using fortifications in a matched play game?" then the answer is yes... but we will reveal more on that in the future.

Frankly buying a building as if a dreadnought is strange to me... I hope that it is handled otherwise than that.

Not sure why this would be strange, it's been this way for a couple of editions now...

I'm just hoping they make them worth taking. Currently they suck, for the points, and are basically deathtraps.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Yea i wish fortifications were more popular. People use them as terrain often enough but never with the rules or bought with points. Think of how many times you saw a batrep that had promethium pipelines on the board but no one bothered with the rules. They also doomed an army to stay static in a game of objective grabbing. Honestly I love the tau terrain that could move but I never saw it. I think the most popular piece I ever saw was the landing pad.

I really hope fortifications keep cool rules in 8th

And sometimes the entire board is a well-planned mess of fortifications, so neither side could claim an exclusive advantage. I have seen fantastic looking game tables with elaborate trench systems. On those, often, neither side would have an advantage by choosing a specific table edge.
Such tables, and games, rarely use building-type fortifications, though. Bastions, Redemption Fortresses, etc. Love seeing those a bit more often.

Yep. Still strange.

The Bunker was always worth taking. As was the Plasma Obliterator, the ADL, Promethian relay pipes, Void shield generators etc.

They look way more like death traps now - occupants die on a roll of 1, 2 or 3 if they are destroyed :-o!

Cause buildings were made of explodium like landraiders. Every time you field an expensive one, it explodes from the first lazcannon pointed in it's general direction.

Who knows. The Aquila may have as many wounds as a IK. That will make it pretty useful compared to 7th edition rules.
