Chaos Space Marines Revisited &
Emerging Drucari

After taking 7th Edition off nearly it its entirity, I have started rebuilding and working my old CSM Deathguard.

I've a handful of vintage CSM Nurgle items that I would like to revisit and restore, despite my initial painting skills from nearly 17 years ago.

The first step, two-part base extenders:

As you can see, the rings are not a perfect fit. Once painted, however, the gaps seem to fill in without the need for epoxy putty

This is my Lord with rings adhered and coated black. Note the modified Umber Hulk head from an old Ral Partha miniature.

Lastly I must remedy the base, which I may experiment with.

I'm uncertain touch-up painting will even be helpful at this point, so that step will be decided later.

I purchased the base extenders from Secret Weapon Miniatures:

Thanks for following.

I'm looking for a better fit at this point than these Secret Weapon extenders. Please link me if you have ones you use that you enjoy I know there are some plastic ones out there floating around that snap together underneath.

Ha! Love the old Ral Partha AD&D Umber hulk head on that lord.

Do you really need the extenders? I know that marines now have the larger bases, but, it's still legal to run them with their original bases in the tournaments AFAIK. You can still run terminators on 25mm bases too.

Thanks Skullking, it was a fun touch to add to the mini so many years ago.

I really prefer the larger bases personally, although for some they are definitely an acquired taste. I'd say around here roughly half of the players have transitioned or by default have 32's because they have just gotten into the game.

Most definitely. I'm going to mimic the completed ones, and then add some brick debris and patches of Ash Waste basing from Secret Weapon Miniatures for a post-atomic look. The dilemma is my 20 or so painted Plague Marines are all painted in this mono-green manner, and the new ones really add have the necessity for a pink and flesh tone look on some of the bottom portions. I've yet to figure out what to do about that. I could make them all match my original, but the fully green scheme is 15 years old and a bit uninspired at this point IMO.

Greetings all. First off, I ditched the SW base extenders and replaced with official 32mm GW bases. I generally admire secret weapon products, but in this case the extenders looked clunky and I was glad to be rid of them.

Now, my first attempt with Agrellan Earth and I should of practiced on a blank base. The reason being is I assumed I would not need to watch the tutorials prior to the first application. I thus forgot to to paint the base brown, and the black underneath doesn't look too great. I'll have to start over, but as you can see he will be kinda fun when properly done. I might as well strip him completely and paint matching my new scheme. He is one of the only older marines I will keep on the field, the others are simply too small to not look odd juxtaposed with the new releases.

And on the topic of new paint scheme,
here is the resulting base coast of Death Guard Green spray, over black primer.
I think it did quite well for non-airbrush.
