... you just have to deploy 1/2 of your Drop Pods with their units inside them on the board at the beginning of the game.

My main point being that it is still legal. Just not as powerful, or as boring for the person who has to play against it.

Pending drop pods ability to deploy normally... Which they can't do currently. It would be thematically awkward to change this.


If GW wanted to allow drop pod armies I suspect they would force you to deploy half of them but with the infiltration rule; or something like deploy anywhere outside of 9" of the enemy deployment zone. This would follow the rule of having them deploy enough on the board and keep the army functioning as it's supposed to.

However, they've had ample opportunity to let us know if drop pods would get something like this and given their PR efforts I'd be very surprised if they've been holding something like this back. :(
