Hi guys,
I use only acrylic bases on my miniatures. Not because I am lazy to paint regular ones, but because I want to see the terrain under. So I was thinking about some storage system. I don't wanna stick to foam case solution because it takes too much space. You can have a look on 3 pics I uploaded. Basically my idea is to create slots where I can slide the minis in. The blue holders would overlap bases by 1mm from each side. My bases are 1.5 mm thick so the slides would have the same thickness. I think "Litko game accessories" can make custom acrylic stuff so I think this is doable. In worst case scenario I can make them from plywood / very thick cardboard. Not a big deal.

I want to keep the blue overlapping parts detachable so I don't have to slide all the minis out if I wanna get the one from the middle. I am looking for some ideas how to make them detachable (everything else would be glued together), yet firm enough to hold minis in place.
Thanks in advance!
Rob

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Magnets are your friend for holding the blue strips in place. Steel strips with some paper glued around it will protect your bases from scratches, and allow you to glue magnets to the base layer (and you can get rare earth magnets of the right thickness to fit your bases underneath). Add enough magnets to keep them on firmly, but not too many that you can't pull the strips off.

Ash from Guerilla Miniature Games covers a carrying case that has a system similar to what you're looking for.

hmm..this IS an interseting idea! I just have to get those steel stripes somehow. But yeah - glued magnets - that would work!
Thank you!

yep, that is something I am trying to accomplish but in his case is a total crazy overkill. He uses thick base which are easy to magnetize. I use thin acrylic bases which can't be magnetized. Was thinking about wingnuts too, but Ill stick to rare magnets glued to the case + thin steel stripes.
Thank you!
