What do you guys think? Do I have enough troops to last? Are they too elite/not elite enough?

Melee acolytes are pretty piss weak for what you pay for and advance horribly. Everything they can do, a dedicated assault fighter from another faction is going to be able to do much better and more efficiently. Every Acolyte should have a storm bolter, and your Inquisitor and 2 Crusaders should have storm shields (and drop the carapace on creation, you have no need for the armour with a 3++). Focus on advancing your Inquisitor and Crusaders, since your Acolytes are nothing more than cheap stormbolter bots who don't get shooting skills anyway.

The Inquisitional list is super one-dimensional, there's no real point in trying to mix it up with anything.

What I recommend starting with:
https://shadow-war.zone/view-killteam/1063/inquisitional-list

You get 20 leftover points to spend on stuff.

Over time, give the Inquisitor and Crusaders power swords/mauls, give the Inquisitor a Combi weapon, the Crusaders plasma pistols, and then just keep on loading up on stormbolter acolytes, giving them red dot sights and photovisors between missions. Not much room for variation, sadly.

If your Inquisitor ends up dying, just reroll.

What about the sniper rifle, do you think the stormbolter is just that much better? I was tinkering a list similar to yours fafnir but with sniper rifles instead of SB.

If the SB is really worth it, where are you guys getting the SB bits?

Sniper rifles are okay if you can invest in the toxic ammo, but stormbolters are better. The added volume of fire allows you to pin more targets, and pin them more reliably. And since you can't get shooting skills to make your fighters better at shooting anyway, all you can really do is capitalise on that cheap volume of fire.

Besides, if you really want sniper rifles, just do Space Marine Scouts. They just do it better.

I'm still not entirely sold on the storm bolter, though I have zero experience here to draw from... but it just seems very situational, and for bad dice rollers, like myself, potentially underwhelming.

It's a bolter with potential for D3 shots, IF your closest foe has a friend within 4" of him, not bad but it's 55 points.

If it was 1+D3 shots, you'd still need the right circumstance to use it but at least you'd be guaranteed a shot at the friend, but just being a D3 I dunno...

It doesn't limit your mobility and you might need all the d3 shots to actually hit something. Also, it's not 'just' bolter. Bolters are formitable in swa.

I'm playing orks and i'm running around with shootas. I always put lazer sights on them uppint the cost to 40 pts and bringing the bs to 3. But it's worth it. Now a stormbolter is fired from a bs4 platform from the get go. And has rend-1. And doesn't explode in your face on a 1-1.

I guess what I am thinking though is a Bolter is only 35 points for 1 shot, everything else the same. A Stormbolter is 55 for D3, as someone that can roll nothing but 1's & 2's all game hah, there are still good odds you only get 1 shot. In 40K these types of situations just never worked well for me, if it were guaranteed 2 shots at least maybe.

Good point on Sniper rifles limited mobility though.

On average, you're going to get around 2 shots a turn. With up to 8 in a force, you can get a wall of on average 16 shots per turn.

In a vacuum sure, but in reality it's very tough to get 8 stormbolter acolytes in a list, especially if you include even just 1 crusader. The stormbolter is 55 points, which is all I'm saying... for the cost, for a random roll to achieve 1-3, I'm just not sure it's that much better of an option.

2/3rds of the time you are at least doubling the power of a bolter. It's easily worth the extra 20 points.
