I just got a 'Start Collecting Slaves to Darkness' but I have never played a game of AoS.

What weapons should i build them with?

Chaos Knights - Ensorcelled Weapons or Glaive? And if I make a guy a hornblower or standard bearer can they still use weapons?

Chaos Warriors - hand weapon, halberd or greatblade? And same question about standard bearer and hornblower?

Chariot - whip, greatblade or war-flail?

I'll keep this brief but if you want the full explanation for everything let me know.

Knights - Ensorcelled weapons.

Warriors - Greatblade would be best but afaik the basic plastic kit won't have them. In such a case go with hand weapon & shield.

Chariot - Greatblade. You always get the whip as well (there are two guys on the back).

All musicians and standard bearers count as having normal weapons for the unit despite what the models appear to be armed with.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Yeah for warriors, you'll have to get the weapons separately... which is a bummer... Still the classic sword n board is much more intimidating and all around useful to the dual-wielding option.

Knights I feel it's similar to Liberators in "Both are good choices" and I prefer the Glaives myself... Then again the weapons have the advantage of having an extra attack and easier to hit a guy...

Flails are too gimmicky for my taste... Besides the greatblade has rend, and that kinda trumps the flail.

I totally agree with this. Buying the great weapons makes for very expensive models so running sword and board is the next best option as it gives you that 5+ ignore mortal wounds. Knights are a either/or based on which weapon you choose. I must add I love my chaos warriors with sword & board 2 wounds and 5+ ignore mortal wounds has been a game changer in many a game and the chaos chariot will wreck a unit on the charge

Mortality is for those who are to afraid to be great!!
