Has anyone else experienced this? I tried some Russ Grey (or the Fang or whatever it is) and Mech Grey. Both came out gunky after a solid 30 second shake.

Is this common? I was hoping to use them for vehicles but I don't want to ruin the models.

I had this issue too with Krylon spray. Check the weather outside. I think it was either Hot Dry days or Hot Humid days that causes the paint to gunk up (it starts to dry in the air, which causes it to become clumps that lands on the model and sometimes it also doesnt stick).

I always spray in cool-dry places. Worse comes to worse I spray in a room with all the windows and balcony doors open.

I live in Houston, so humidity is a factor, but the gakky $4 can of black went on smoothly the same day. Maybe it's less sensitive.

I keep my sprays to air conditioned car parks <3asia

So i wouldnt know.

Pretty sure gw primers are pretty dank though.
As in good dank.

If spray dries before it hits the model or swells with humidity before it hits the model it will be overly grainy. I've had it happen with a few different makes over the last 15 years, high pigment metallic seem to be the worst offenders for my self.

I usually shake GW primers for a solid 2 minutes, if not 5, before using them. But that was for formulas from like 5-8 years ago. Maybe it's just their formula being worse and separated a lot easier.

If the paint can hasn't been used recently (or if it's new) I recommend shaking for a solid 10 minutes before using. If you got a fidgety family member, have them do it (I have to fidget a lot even while web surfing so I just read TVTropes for a few while doing so).

30 seconds doesn't sound like all that long for a brand new can, give it a proper shake and see if it comes good.

Check the spraying distance (it probably says on the can what spraying distance to use, not all sprays are the same) and temperature (too hot will give a grainy finish, too cold will tend to pool and give poor pressure) and humidity.

If all those things are fine, return the can for a refund or replacement.
