Hi,

with the 8th on the horizon i finally decided to start a long term project which i can hopefully slowly grow.

My idea is to build an Ork Freebooter force in the long run. As a starting point i thought about starting a small force in the form of an Ork patrol detachment.

In addition i want to try out some scratch build and conversion work and i hope to train my skills with working on an Ork force.

My first project are some Mek Guns with exchangeable guns. As a starting point i chose Lobbas, since they are the biggest guns and maybe easiest to build. Depending on the new rules i would like to build up to 5 for the first batch.

For now i build one Lobba as a prototype. The general idea was to make it somehow freebooter style with some resemblance of pirate guns mixed with some Ork style. Therefore i chose a Gun carriage similar to pirate gun or mortar carriages mixed with a front shield to provide cover for the crew.

I chose dimensions found on dakka for Mek Guns, since i hope to build different guns for the carriages and field them in multiple ways and able to adapt to new rules. Length: 6cm (2.5"), Width: 6sm(2.5"), Heigth: 6cm(2.5"), The Lobba is about 4.5cm long and has a diameter between 16 and 20mm.

Attached are some pictures. I hope the pictures are fine. should have maybe posted before priming.

Please let me know what you think about my build. I know some parts still look too plain. Maybe you guys have some ideas. I wanted to add an explosion glyph and maybe a scope.

Best,
scatter

PS: how do i put the pics within the text?

Depending on your aesthetic taste, I find that to spice up big, flat areas on Ork equipment one needs only to add some roughshod armor plates bolted on. Some chewed up pieces of plastic are that aaallllmost fit the appropriate space they're attached to is a good move.

Otherwise looks good! Definitely looks like you put some time and effort into it instead of just gluing a pen cap to Legos or something equally lazy that sum uv da boyz pass off as "scratch built."

Thx Greenshoes!

yeah, took me quiet some time and thinking, since i wanted them modular and not looking to cheap while beeing flavourful.

I had some ideas right after posting and also took your comment and modified the initial build a bit further.

Added the explosion glyph, the flag and flag holder. The flag is detachable for transport and when i find a nicer one. Also chewed up the gun shield a bit. The primer went off, but wanted to finish the build before repriming and painting (shouldn't have primed it in the first place).

For now everythink is 100% scratch, from sculpted wheels to all the bits and pieces.

Here are some new pics of the current state.

Looks good boss. Can I ask what you used to build the actual cannon part? Are the rings around it representative of weld lines?

Also - if that flag is made from plasticard, you may be able to get a nice effect if you took a lighter to it. Nothing crazy, but just enough to warp it and give it a cloth effect.

Thx Novasetri!

The actual gun barrel is made from 3 different pipes with 3 different diameters. I wanted to have some kind of step effect at first where the gun gets beefier towards the end. I realized that the plain pipe looks just too plain. I added the welding to blend the cutting edges of the pipes and to achieve a beafed-up look by added material. The middle rings on the biggest pipes were added to break the plain area. Than i added the studs to the sides similar to medieval mortars to rotate in the gun carriage and a hatch at the back end for loading and a small pipe as a hindge (maybe hard to see).

The flag for now is printed paper. I have to figure out first how to get the jolly ork look good on plastic card. Either transfers or a stenzil. But I will definitely try the heat for plastic to make it look more cloth like! Thx!
