Warning From Magnus? Not Listening!

Holy Terra.

I decided to make a new blog, instead of clogging up my HH Thousand Sons one, to display my still-very-much-in-the-planning-stage Eldar army. So I did!

Right now I just have this to show you guys:

Now, if you click that link in my signature, you'll find that, just recently, part of me fell to slaanesh. So the rest of me decided to the best idea was to put me on
the path of the warrior and hope for the best.

My plan is to build a medium sized force for 8th edition, focusing mostly on the units I love: Wraith constructs, jet bikes and Aspect warriors. My army will be from craft world Mymeara, so I hope to add Irillith and a unit of FW Spectres in later on. To start with, though, i have ordered the Start Collecting! set, two boxes of Wraithguard, a Wraithlord and a Spiritseer (my favourite Eldar mini!). I also have a unit of Guardians and a warlock somewhere in storage, so I'll dig those out and repaint them too.

By the way, this blog is dedicated to Ynneadwraith, who's Eldar blog HERE: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/702683.page inspired me to start this army. Thanks for that, man.

Well, thats all from me. Stay tuned!

Yeah, I decided to do a Mymeara-themed force after painting loads of blue power swords, and I liked painting them so much I decided to paint a whole army like them!

My stuff arrived (minus one clear plastic canopy ) and I got to do my favourite part of wargaming: opening boxes.

I started building the farseer this evening, who will only have slight conversion work, and hopefully move on to the wind riders tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Finished the Farseer!

I also started the Windriders (at 7:00 this morning), so expect to see them this evening.

I started building the Wraithlord. I had a battle worthy of any anime with this one, complete with screaming, creative name calling (such as "damn recently deceased but reanimated pointy eared space elf scum!") and superglue burns. I managed to get everything glued on... and then its foot fell of, followed by half of its tabard. So this is where I left it.

Plastic Glue ftw, tbh. I built mine in two halves, rather than follow the guide. I glued the feet in position on the base first, then the legs and hips onto the feet and I set a pose for them.

The top half was completed before final pose testing.... And I'm stuck deciding on which way to pose him now (See my P&M log link in Sig)

PS Do love the walking pose you've done, I have to admit. GW's own poses seem unnecessarily static.

I really need a reminder when you start up a new blog! I only just discovered this as I was starting to wonder where that Eldar idea went... turns out it went here. It'll be nice to see where this goes!

Yeah, I tried plastic glue but it was taking to long for the pose to dry, so it ended up all lopsided. I really love the pose to, I was trying to mimic the Wraithguard's slow walk. These guys are dead, after all, so time isn't an issue.

Sorry, I probably should have posted something the KSons blog before starting this. Thanks anyway.

Ok, I got some more work done!

Built 1 more bike

And started the Fire Prism/Night Spinner. This thing is LITERALLY the bane of my existence. The parts dont fit together, everything is attached to the sprue in the worst possible locations and nothing wants to stay together.

It looks awesome, though, so I'll probably end up buying a few more. Sigh...

Thankyou! Someone else who gets Wraith units. I've seen a lot of super-dynamic Wraithlord conversions which while they look good just don't seem to fit what Wraiths are like.

They're the souls of the long-dead, striding languidly through the fog of a world that's no longer theirs, unaware whether they're living, dead, or in some dreaming state inbetween. They're not going to be leaping off rocks pistols akimbo.

Oh god I remember that kit. Been a while since I made one, but it's based on the Falcon chassis which if I remember rightly is 3rd ed vintage. It's not a bad kit per se, but they've come a looong way since then.

It is a really pretty vehicle though...

Well, I'll probably head on over to my FLGS on Wednesday, to check out the prices for Wrathguard and purchase Corax White, so maybe this weekend?

It has been a while since I put together one of those, and boy is it a royal pain. I don't think I've put together a single grav tank/skimmer and not had any problems with it. SM Land Speeders are still at the top of my "never build again" list. Also, I also love Wraith armies, but never invested in them due to them being WAY too powerful and as such I'd never get to play them. Their designs are amazing, and a good excuse to practice yellow.

I started work on the Wraithguard:

I'll hopefully get some magnets tomorrow, so I'll be able to magnetise the Wraithlord, the bikes and tank and the 'Guard.

Would love to see a mini-tutorial on how you magnetise the Wraithguard, as I'll be undoubtedly adding to my initial 15 with D-Scythe / Wraithblade guys and would like options.

Will do. My first unit will only have the guns magnetised, but the next two will be guard/blades, with everything magnetised.

Holy Terra.

I picked up some Corax White the other day and it was cool enough this morning to undercoat! So I started work on the wraithlord.

The blue is really bright and crisp, something I don't do often (my models tend to be really dark and gritty). The armour will receive green patches soon, and I'll hopefully get the wraithlord finished before tomorrow evening.

Stay tuned!

Holy Terra.

I finished painting the Wriathlord (minus the base) and thought I'd post some pics.

Sorry about the foot, it decided it would rather be part of the base than part of the model, but luckily I managed to compromise and it is now part of a pile of bits on my desk.

The white fins on the back took about 7 layers to get a even coat. Sigh...

Im not so happy with this side of the sword, but the other side is good enough.

Next up are my wind riders and farseer, who ill probably get done by the end of this week. I also have a bunch of guardians I need to strip, so those should be done too.

Thats all for now!

Ooh very nice! These guys are going to look excellent

Personally, I'd say go for a bit of a grimier scheme. The majority of people paint Eldar in super-clean bright styles, but I absolutely love it when people throw in a bit of dirty grittiness to them. Every time I've seen it done I've thought it looks better

Might be something to do with my innate preference for gritty paint schemes though...

Eldar never struck me as a super gritty faction, which is probably why non gritty schemes suit them so well typically. You could try some weathering but personally I'd keep it clean. Maybe try it on a few test models and decide then.

Yeah that's why I think it works so well, for me at least. 40k in general is super-gritty, so adding that little bit of grit to the Eldar (even if it's just mud and dirt from the battlefield) really helps to ground them in the universe around them.

Definitely try a test see if you like it

Well, the Eldar are going to be based on snow/glacier bases, so they won't be too dusty, but after I base them they'll get some snow added to their shoulders/head and blood splatters around their feet. Plus the scheme actually is pretty rough, Im trying to make my wraith constructs look really old, but also somewhat organic, so there are plenty of patches and rough bits (you can't see it too well on those pics).

In other, unrelated news, I'm back from Austria!! No real hobby-ing was done, but I did visit GW Vienna to buy some more wind riders, so I can now field either two 3-man units or one 6-man one. I was also very pleased about the amount of twin-headed eagles, although the prevalence of 8-pointed stars at the war museum struck me as odd. I have also decided that tourists=HERESY!! and tourist traps=DOUBLE HERESY!! BLAM!! BALM!!.

As you can see by my shadow, all these eldar have made my ears go pointy
