Hey everyone , !
I want to turn all my Marines. And chaos space Marines into true scale models to match the primaris guys , mainly focusing on power armor, and terminator armor,. But if you have tips for basic vehicles and dreadnuaghts I'm all ears!
I'll take photos, advice, links, anything you have!
Would especially like it of I got some referals to some possible third party vendors???
Thanks
FMJ

The Easiest way to make true scale marines Ive found is to use term legs instead of marine legs.

add a bit of green stuff tot he neck join to make the neck seem longer. This of course mean that my marines are the same size as terminators but..best I got.

Money, time or effort isn't an issue,
So if you have some crazy ideas, I want to great them!
I love the terminator leg idea, would putting on terminator shoulder pads help to?
Any idea on how to make terminators bigger

I'm not sure if there are still companies selling true-scale conversion kits for Space Marines; Chapter House Studios used to make one I think, but that one's long gone I'm afraid...

If you're willing to convert them all by yourself, have a look at some of the true-scaling tutorials online - there's a couple of different ways to increase a Space Marine's height and bulk, so it's best to figure out what kind of look you're aiming for before you start cutting into your bits.

I've been working on a few true-scale CSM myself, here are some pics:

These guys are a combination of Terminator and regular Power Armour parts. The Terminator legs add a lot of height, but require you to bulk out the chest piece so it fits nicely on top of them. Here's a closer look:

The modified chest piece is on the right; I built it out of a Chaos Terminator's chest piece, a regular SM chest piece and backside, a tiny bit of sprue and some Green stuff.

Of course, if you're going to use Terminator legs, you'll have to decide whether or not you want to cover up the back end of the legs. They'll look a look more like Power Armour if you do, though; compare the above example with the one below:

Some more general notes:

- the close combat weapons that come with the Raptor kit are a bit oversized for regular dudes, but they look pretty good in the hands of a true-scaled Astartes. See my first pic for reference.

- Terminator legs have these annoying little armour flaps around their hips; I suggest chopping them off and putting some pouches, grenades, etc. there to add a little extra to your true-scaled Marines.

As for true-scaled Terminators, there aren't that many options, I'm afraid... I'm trying to build a Chaos one myself from the Obliterator kit; it's pretty much the only thing that really has the necessary size and bulk.... have a look:

Needless to say, this isn't the easiest conversion to pull off. I'll let you know if this experiment worked out in the end

I feel like you could get away with just cutting and shimming the legs and a bit of the torso to get the height. the arms i dont feel necessarily need to get longer but i might be wrong proportion wise.
you could also try and preposition the legs so they are standing up straighter too
i plan on true scaling some imperial dudes once adeptus restartes drops.

I think the termie legs by themselves with the bulked out chest and a bit of GS to make the neck longer are good to get the effect. Id also wait until you have a primaris to scale next to

Honestly, if you want true scale, you're going to have to convert. The best thing to do is to cut the thigh, glue plasticard to make it taller. Then lower the arms more towards the waist, then boom, true scale.

The Terminator Legs cheat, which it really is, doesn't do too well at making the appearance IMO.

I've seen tutorials that splice the Thighs and some that splice the Calves and green-stuffed them to get the height gap. Of course, with a model that has decorated calves, that's a bit of a problem.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

The problem with splicing the existing plastics is you're still left with dodgy proportions and stance. The terminator legs can provide a quick shortcut if all you're after is them looking roughly correct from a distance, but to do it "properly" ie both have the appropriate details on the armour and have better stance & proportions(no more bandy-legged shattered pelvis, no more anorexic thighs) you have to get the sculpting tools out I'm afraid.

Personally what I do is: take a regular Marine torso, add a 1.5mm spacer between the two halves, and a 0.8mm spacer to each shoulder, trim away the belt buckle and scrape down the abdominal cabling. Take a set of Terminator legs(of any sort, they're basically just going to be an armature, but I've found plastic Cataphractii or regular Terminators work best) and cut away both legs at the hip join trimming away any thigh plates as you do, then glue them back on slightly closer together and further down the hips(you might have to trim the crotchplate a little), then add 0.5mm spacer to the bottom of the feet, also trim off the belt. Put a wee square of 1mm plasticard into the ball socket on the torso, then glue it down to the legs. Strip back all the protruding detail(chest eagle etc) except the backpack socket and narrow the greaves if you've used Cataphractii. Then you basically have to sculpt your chosen mark of power armour over the top with a thin layer of putty. For the arms, trim away the existing shoulderpad join and glue on one from Terminator arms, then use Terminator pads resculpted to more closely resemble PA pads.

Now you could do all of that and end up like me, struggling to finish a single squad of the bloody things( ), or you could wait a few weeks and use the Primaris as your "armature". You'll still have to trim away the surface detail and resculpt it as whatever mark of armour you want, but it already has almost spot-on proportions(don't be fooled by the comparison image with its Cadian model - most modern GW plastic humans are as tall as the PA Marines, so the Primaris is about right for a truescale/artscale Astartes - lord knows how big a truescale Primaris would be, lol) and frankly given they're in the starter box it will be a heck of a lot cheaper than bitz-buying loads of parts, not to mention quicker.

Also, if you're new to sculpting and find the idea of reworking a whole model daunting - grab yourself a couple of colour shapers(rubber "brushes"), a basic GW-esque sculpting tool, and your hobby knife and just have a crack at it; doing large, smooth, curved surfaces like you find on Marine armour is probably one of the best ways to start learning how to sculpt since you can focus on getting the size and shape right, and a nice smooth finish, without having to worry about how gravity would change the shape(cloth) or where muscles are in relation to each other in different poses.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
