So I don't play Marines or Deathgaurd, but I do have some Marines for painting and playing Kill Team with my sons.
I wasn't planning on getting the starter set, but my sons might just be interested enough....but they both want the Marines

Knowing that the models in the set will not be sold separately for a while, how much can we guess the sets will be?
I'll probably sell off most of the models, keeping only a few

My guesses:
7 Plague Marines - $40-$50
Poxwalkers - $25-30 per 10 (so $50-60 in for the 20 in the set)
Blightdrone - $25-40
DG characters - $20-25 each

Primaris marines - $25-35 per 5
Jump/Jet marines - $40-50
Marine characters - $15-25 each

So with the rules being $60, that puts the sets 'vaule' around $400-$500. Does that seem right?

Given that my LGS sells GW product at about 20% off, do you think it would be worth getting this set, then selling off the most of the models?
In other words, could I essentially get the rule book and a handful of models for "free" by getting my initial $160 back?

DOn't want to encourage you too much, because competition, but our local store is a discount one, so whenever we've needed a rulebook we've always bought the set and sold the models. Normally we get all our money back, so the cost of the rulebook is probably roughly equivalent to eBay and PayPal fees.

Well - you've got to think about how many people will be doing this. The market will be flooded with these models - so it might take you a while. The Primaris I think will be much easier to sell than the DG - could probably make your money back just on them though.

Personally I'm going to buy it and sell the DG to a friend for dirt cheap. Like 50 bucks for the whole DG lot.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

I was planning on getting the Rule book anyway, so if I can at least get it for less overall AND be some models out of it, I think I'll go for it.

I play Daemons, so I'll probably keep 10 Poxwalkers (they look so much like Cultists becoming Plaguebearers) and about 10 Marines.

So selling almost all the DG and all the 'special' Marines should hopefully get back over $100 for me.
I'd have to sell the DG for $77.77.....because Nurgle

Vigo. Spain.

I did basically this in the past to the Burning of Prospero box. I sell everything minus the Sisters of Silence, and after 4 boxes I ended with 20 free sisters of silence and 80€ in gainings.
It took me two months to sell everything, tought. But it was worth it.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.
