And they have one wound. But they are still the size of a primaris marine. That means we will, as in previous editions, have plague marines and chaos space marines with the mark of nurgle. Just this time one of them is notably bigger for no reason.
My guess is normal chaos marines with mark of nurgle wont have disghustingly recilient. But we heard GW state that chaos would get chaos god boosted marinens alike to primaris marines? So these "boosted" chaos marines are actually just the old cult troops?

Maybe they will have some kind of way to buff then in a way.
Maybe they take certain formations, numbers or a hq who grants them increased abilities.

i am not surprised primaris are way better than anything chaos could get
I mean, GW showing love for marines? nothing new. Much less on the primaris.
GW needs sell them, and doing them super soldiers better than blessed by gods marines is a need.
No need to mention the primaris with 2W and 5T.............
Also now the feel no pain is less useful. Guess the plague marines should cost way less than primaris marines. but knowing GW they will cost the same or more xDD

Some of them are Primaris sized, others are not.
That said, the buffs could be coming in more Plague themed options in the next campaign. You know, to go with the plastic Morty that's coming.
That or perhaps we'll see some buffs tied to the keywords.

nah, i dont think any chaos space marine will be better than primaris. Same for HQ, sure primaris captains or chapter master will be better than chaos lords.
Not logic at all and a kick on the lore's balls....but GW need sell the new primaris marines xDDD

I doubt seriously that Plague Marines will cost the same as Primaris. The basic primaris marine is 23 points. A normal space marine is 13. I assume Plague marines will be in the 16-18 range.
But that makes the Starter Set a bit imbalanced. The Primaris side is near 1k points, I doubt the chaos one is gonna be so much. Probably more like 600-800

I think GW's intent is to make Primaris a IoM thing, and to instead give chaos all sorts of neat chaos gifted units instead. It's GW's answer, currently at least, to the age old problem of "how do we make chaos marines something differant other then just marines with spikey bits" hopefully this'll mean chaosfied things that are in 7th edition space marine only, the presence of cataphracti armor on the Lord of corruption is an enchouraging sign

nothing we've not seen a zillion times before.
Dark Vegence had ` tac Marine Squad, 1 bike Squad, 1 squad of terminators, a captain, a librarian against a chaos force of 1 chaos lord, 1 helbrute, 6 chosen, and 20 cultists,
this was also pretty lop sided point wise IIRC.

It's not like we haven't seen stats for these to compare:
Five Primarus Interccessors are 6 Power Rating (approximately 120 points). They have no upgrades available and are armed with Bolt Pistols, Bolt Rifle, Frag & Krak Grenades.
Five Plague Marines are 7 Power Rating (Approximately 140 points) armed with Plague Knife, Boltgun, Blight and Krak Grenades ad a Bolt Pistol on the Champion. Two may upgrade with added Plasma Pistol or swap Bolter for Special Weapons (including Blight launcher). The Champion may upgrade to Plague Sword, Powerfist & Plasma Gun, or Champion Weapons. Additional Plague Marines are 5 Power Rating (~100 Points).
I'm thinking the Plague Marines are not looking so bad in comparison to the Intercessors given that 7 Power Rating of the initial 5 for the unit are basically 40 points of upgrades for the unit.

Well, plague marines did get a new (very powerful) weapon option. The blight launcher is arguably my new favorite special weapon. Hopefully we will also get a terminator unit as well, given how death guard are one of the mass terminator armies in fluff/ HH.
We also already have more new units than tsons got, if we include morty.

One thing worth keeping in mind is dark vengence wasn't intended to provide too balanced armies, as provide a force you could use to learn all the core game emchanics in a n utshell. you have your hoard units (cultiests) line infantry in a tac squad, a dreadnought to learn how vehicles worked etc.
that may be how the new starter set is designed too.

maybe it'll change when we see some new units, but over all it seems Primaris Marines are a ranegd faction, more then melee, their weaponry has a ranegd advantage over conventional Imperial guns, their "assault marines" are gunners..

They're pretty Tau like, but the Captain certainly isn't good in ranged with a S4 bolt pistol that has three shots.
I think we still haven't seen everything since these dataslates are supposed to be just for things in the starter set I believe.

Actually I think it's going to be fairly balanced.
Remember what they said: powerlevel is the average between basic loadout and going fully tooled up.
And here's the thing: Primaris have only a basic load-out, from what we've seen. Their average IS their maximum. Meanwhile, nurgle has room to go on multiple units, primarily the plague marines.
The power level in an itself is fairly close, 34 vs 39 and not acounting for the two DG heroes and the ultras'. My guess will be that we will end up with a 48 vs 52 power lvel ratio. Fairly close and let's remember that you get command re-rolls for the difference, which may even out a further bit the difference, specially if DG army rules are better than Um army rules.

It's mainly the champion, though. On a model per model basis afterwards, a unit of plague marines is cheaper (+1 power level per plague marine model vs +1.2 power level per model on primaris) Automatically Appended Next Post: Actually, I've learnt something VERY interesting. This starter is stacked up.
On the deathguard's favour.
Apparently, according to an acquaintance of mine, and another two posters' accounts on space battles, have said that on the demos the deathguard cleaned home with the marines. That their gear and skills was pretty finely tuned in the task of mulching space marines.
So... yeah, new hotness. LoL.

We all know the primaris marines wont just run around carrying boltrifles for the entire edition. Sooner or later there will be veteran, terminator primaris etz, wouldnt surprise me if we get some riding around in mini bike tanks. And when that happens chaos as a whole might as well get a colostomy.
Doesnt matter what comes in the starter set as its obviously just meant as an introduction.

Well, we have the stats on everything but the characters, so we know that's poppycock. More likely it was the newbies playing Primaris and not knowing to shoot the heavy bolter spam at the cultists and the plasma spam at the Plague Marines.
The only thing actually dangerous in the Nurgle force is the Drone exploding, everything else they have can't dent power armour apart from the one plasma gun.

That's stats for the Plague Marines are....disappointing.
Seriously? 1 wound?
The Nurgle Chaos Lord @ power 9 with less attacks than the SM Captain @ power 7.... (who also has T5 and a 4+ invuln).
Basic stats seem off. The abilities, etc might even them out but movement, wounds, and the Toughness of the new marines seems to be not balanced.
Dunno, not making a "Whine" statement....yet....but so far it looks lame for the DG.

Well unbalanced starter sets are timehonoured like close to 30 years old tradition
At least there's chance chaos can win. Imagine poor dark eldars on 3rd ed when they were pretty much screwed 10 tac marines and land speeder vs 20 warriors with literally no way whatsoever to hurt the land speeder! Only way they can win is some scenario that doesn't allow marine force just whittle down them with invincible land speeder
