When I was cleaning up the other day I found 4 Space Marine veterans I had partially painted and then abandoned, which is pretty typical for me. What was unusual was these guys were like, 90% done. So, I finished them over the last few days - another paint job that was about 6 hours of painting with a inexplicable 5 year pause in the middle

Lineup of all 4:
Spoiler:

This guy was a web exclusive for when the web store opened in 2008 (I think). I was lucky to snag a cheap one on ebay. Maybe my favorite Space Marine pose.

Spoiler:

I found 2 vets on ebay in a blister pack. I think these were later re-released in finecast, but these guys are the old metal ones. Also I don't think they come with that chainmail banner anymore. I did cut off the pistol for one and added a older-style bolter from FW.

Spoiler:

This bro is from, I want to say, the Dark Vengeance starter set? I could be wrong. He started out as a Dark Angel. The tabard came out pretty good but I did less great of a job on the helmet and shoulderpad iconography. The head is from some Dark Angel as well.

The freehands are really good! How did you do them? Any tips?

Really beautiful work. The glowy green is pretty sharp.

Its sometimes good just to appreciate a nice space marine. Any one of these guys could lead his own force on the table top. They're quality characters. The web store special and the beaky vet especially.

Lovely work on that rhino too, what a beauty!

If you mean on the tabard and the shoulderpads - use decals, because that's what I did.

The only freehand I did was on that one space marines helmet, the wreath? And that took several attempts. My advice, if you want to call it that, is to use a good, small brush, a steady hand, and then it's easier to go over parts and clean up than it is to do it perfect the first time.

Thanks. I'm just using them as sergeants now, but I might try and pick up a few more so I can do a squad of Sternguard.

Great work. I didn't even recognize the DV mini as a base for your conversion until you pointed him out
