A friend invited me to tag along to an Iron Maiden concert on Saturday in Virginia. I'm super excited as I never got to see them in my metalhead days in high school. I wore out my cassettes of Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, and Powerslave

I kind of lost track of keeping up with music sometime after the Fear of the Dark album. Are there any albums or particular songs since those days that I should listen to before the concert that are regular staples of their live shows?

I'd give The Book of Souls album a listen; aside from being absolutely fantastic in and of itself, it's the latest Maiden album from a couple of years ago so I imagine their current sets will draw pretty heavily from it.

It's the Book of Souls tour, so it would be a good idea to listen to that album a few times, otherwise you won't be into the tracks as much as you could be.

I last saw them last year and didn't pay heed to my own advice, so wasn't as impressed as I could have been and it was all my own fault! Should have listened to the album...

Brave New World and Dance of Death are also very solid records, if you haven't listened to those.

This Is Where the Fish Lives

I wanted to go because I've loved Iron Maiden for 20 years and I've never seen them live, but unfortunately I had to work Saturday night and I didn't have a vacation day to burn.

Hopefully I can catch them next time.

The concert was absolutely amazing.

I am in awe of how much pure energy these guys have in their advanced years. They were running around and jumping up and down like it was the Live After Death years.

While they played alot of new material, it was all good, and they hit up something from every classic album I wanted to hear something from. Iron Maiden, Wrath Child, The Number of the Beast, Children of the Damned, The Trooper, Powerslave, Wasted Years, and Fear of the Dark were all trotted out. They played for over two hours, which is more than I expected. I did not detect a single bad note or beat in their playing, the stage set and theatrics were awesome, and their energy and enthusiasm as a band was off the charts for men of their age.

I was also quite surprised by how many young people attended the show.

Go out and check them out on this tour, it will be worth your money!

Definitely happy to hear this, since I'm seeing them on friday in NC. Wish they could do Empire of the Clouds from the newest album, but I know that just isn't going to happen and the setlist looks pretty good otherwise.

Maiden is always awesome live. I haven’t been out to a show in years though (for any band) .. last time I saw them was August 2000, Halford and Queensryche opened for them.

I got my 3 nephews into them, and my sister is still pissed at me cuz one of them sang number of the beast to his kindergarten teacher. I wish I coulda been there :(

My dream is to one day have Bruce Dickenson fly me somewhere.

He used to fly 757 for Astraeus (UK Charter group) but also flew with Air Djibouti as of last year at least (he owns the company).

I've seen them 3 times in Italy, they're not among my favorite bands (but I still like them a lot) but their live shows are absolutely amazing!!

About the setlist, in their typical shows 2/3 of it is always the same with classics from the first seven albums and the hit fear of the dark plus some more recent random songs.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Envy.

Iron Maiden are one of the music acts on a very short list of those I want to see live.

Enjoy the show.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I've never had the chance to see Iron Maiden in concert, no shows on their current tour are within 600 miles of where I am, nothing in the PacNW at all

Seen Judas Priest, Sabbath, etc, but just never had the chance to see Maiden yet.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Saw them last Saturday in my home town of Toronto, mostly as a result of this thread actually lol. It was my first time ever catching them live and they were truly amazing. The venue got so loud when they started playing the trooper I thought my head was going to explode. Hope to see them again soon!
