I've started painting up a Bolt Action BEF army and noticed a bunch of the figures appear to have a leather(?) covering over the upper part of their left arm. Not to be confused with the leather jerkin. I can't seem to find any reference to what it is and my google-fu is failing me.

Attached a photo from Warlord showing a painted rifle section that shows the 2nd, 4th and 6th figure with the covering (8th figure has it too, but it's not visible in the photo).
