Did you try to get it by actually going into a Barnes and Noble?  I picked my copy up nearly a week ago, in Colorado.  The Davin System is where the Heresy begins right?  The planet is called Istvaan V but does that mean the system is the Davin system not the Istvaan System?

That's a given. That's like asking if "this Abaddon guy" is Abaddon the Despoiler...

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

Just picked up my copy last night, and it was a quicker read than the Horus Rising novel.

My main thought coming away from it was how sad the situation with Magnus was, I had no idea how close he was to stopping the Heresy before it even began.

That and what really caused Russ to go haywire before assaulting Prospero...

Russ was given his orders direct from the emporer, dont trust the new fluff

I was under the impression that this line of books was to retcon and unify the fluff on the heresy.

The emperor sent Russ to bring Magnus back to Terra.

Horus fed Russ all sorts of lines about corruption and sorcery, insuring that the only way Russ would bring Magnus back to Terra was in a body bag.

ok i did not relise it was to unify the fluff, i thought it was just delving further into it, but i guess you will have decrepancies along the way. i actually thought it was based on the artwork they have in the big books as all the charactors mentioned in the books are in the big artworks books, so you can see what they look like. either that or abnett and the other guy just took the naames fdrom there

Think of it this way: the records between the "now" (current 40k universe), and the "then" (heresy era) are spotty at best. While the Imperium may know that the Emperor sent Russ to Prospero, and that Russ sacked the planet, they may not know the original reason why he was sent or what caused him to sack it instead (given that it was caused by a communication between Horus and Russ, they may have suppressed it or even destroyed the records).

Thus, given the current situation with the Thousand Sons, Imperial Scholars may have just connected the dots in the way that gives the Emperor the benefit of the doubt: That the Emperor sent Russ to destroy Prospero because Magnus had been tampering with sorcery.

The Great State of Texas

I am nt as nearly impressed wiht this book as Horus Rising. Horus' fall appears to easily. Here is somewhat apparently absolutely steadfast, and is suddenly converted by one captain? The ease with which the Luna Wolves begin to splinter is also jarring. Its too easy a conversion, and smacks of the bad directing of the newer Star Wars series.

On the positive, from a chaos persepctive it makes Death to the False Emperor a much more truthful statement, adn gives support to the "chaos viewpoint" that these guys were tryign to stop a power mad dictator, and everything kind of went wrong.

Good to see the Prospero story. I always thought they were the "Don't shoot the messenger" tale writ large.

absolutly agree. it was sad to see battle brother who had fought together for 100s of years start to mistrust and take sides with outsiders (erebus) against their own. the warmaster was turned a bit to easily, where was the drama and the conflict? there was none. but i guess the books are just to tell the story.

i cant wait till the next instalment as i dont want the hero to die,

Interesting concept. If Loken wacks Lucius, does Loken become Lucius???

Personally I'd like to see Loken survive this to form a new 2nd founding chapter???

I'm curious, was there ever a full list printed of the marines who joined Captain Garro when he went to warn the Emperor about the heresy?

no there was not a full list so we can hope loken was on that ship. makes me wana do a lunar wolves pre heresy army, hmm no resist the temptaion. lo9ken could not beat Lucious as after the first match Lucios was much better, his skills evolved for the better, maybe he had made his pact with slaanesh by the time he sparred with loken the 2nd time??

I've only read Horus rising so far, but am I the only one hoping Loken actually does end up siding with Horus?
I think it would be a far better read if they were able to have him decide to follow his loyalty to Horus over the Emperor.
Leave him conflicted sure, ~ but if he stands with the loyalists it's simply a repeat of pretty much every other heroic story.
Show the tragedy.
(Of course with Counter writing the third I'm not sure how it will turn out but not really having high hopes)

yeah but most people like heroic stories and endings. it would be better if he did not as the concept all throughout is if something was foul in his legion would he satnd up against it. marines loyalty is to the emporer first and then there primarch not the other way around as it becomes. Loken is a terran he knew the emporor B4 he was serving Horus.

Yes, but the fluf that exist now (from hersey artbooks) seems to have only troops from Death Guard ,Emperor's Children and ,uhmm the other one.. sent down to Istvann as "disloyal" . Don't believe any Sons of Horus were mentioned.
That being said, again with Counter having written the 3rd book I'm sure they'll be a tale where Loken wounds Horus thereby setting up the whole ending on Terra.

BTW, somewhere there was a 1 or 2 page blurb describing in brief the decision for the Loyalists with Garo (dunno if he was mentioned at the time) to seize the frigate and warn the Emperor- all I remember from it is the line that the numbers of loyalists added up to their legion numbers or something.
Given that bit of helpful trivia, anyon remember the story, or more importantly which book/magazine it was in?

it was around 70 loyalist and Garro. it does not name them. it does say that the captain of the emporeors children saul tarvitvs was a loyalist and fought against horus, it does not mention whether he escaped with garro. it does show a picture of Loken. Garro was picked up by rogal dorn and presented to the emporor,
