Hi guys , it took me a damn lot of time to finish this before going back to work on tuesday but I managed to do it so here it is :
my light long range recon team from the skiitari special forces from GW 40k , this is the second unit I painted since I got into the sci fi universe of 40k and I think is not looking too bad , at least I hope it doesn't eheh . This is part of my ongoing coalition of astra militarum special forces detachment including these skiitaris and another 10 men vanguard assault squad coming when i'll have time , my first painted squad from the tempestus scions shock and awe strike unit , another coming unit from the steel legion pathfinders and last but not least a full Vostroyan firstborns urban CQB support unit with their command squad . Hope you like it and as always all commentary , tips and everything is deeply welcomed as I try to be better at what I do .
Cheers guys .

Norton

PS I still don't know why the pictures are in a such bad quality but if you click on them it's in great quality .

They look good. Nice different colour selection. I think the bases could use a little work (the blood/goop doesn't look particularly good). The gravelly bits on top could use some differentiation (either a wash or a dry brush).

Frankly the bases are far better looking in reality but because of the poor weather conditions today i had to use a flash to take the pictures and yeah i'm really hating what they look like , it's a shame . But you're absolutely right , it's not my strong side as it's only my first few bases i did in my life and i'm not quite good at it , i tried shading but i don't really like what's it's doing . In opposition i'm really happy with the color schemes as at first i had the idea of doing a tan/sand base and an orange highlight on the robes but wasn't really sure , it worked better than i expected and the desert tribes' blue pants really do a great job with the other colors .

I just added 4 pictures with natural light to show what it actually look like without the flash just fading all the details , it's far from being perfect but it does a better job in my opinion . (the blood is from GW "blood for the blood god" and it really look quite nice on site)

Thanks Aetare , I still have a very long way to go until I can paint really satisfying miniatures (like AAN juste posted in thi section for exemple , great work) but I kind of like how i'm starting this . I've got a lot to do to get better at making the bases life-like and the paint job is still a bit clumsy but I'll keep trying until high standards are achieved .

They look great! Where they a pain to build?

Ahahah they were a little but nothing compared to the Tempestus Scions . You just have to be careful when glueing the robes since sometimes they don't align really well , you have to put some glue all the way to the bottom of the robe and press the two sides together until it's well joined and solid . Aside from that i learned by doing that the most efficient way for me is to glue the robe together and add the head , paint all this aside from the legs , the arms and the backpacks and only when all the paint is satisfying i glue all together , ink them to do the shade and do the highlights , then the base and it's finished . Oh and it wasn't so hard because i didn't use the arc rifles which are a pain in the back to align correctly with the pipes from the backpacks .

Nice paint work you should display them on a better surface the sheen attracts the eye away from the model.

The more I look at these the more I really like the lighter desert fatigues as opposed to the red in some cases.

You're right Megaknob I should use a more neutral background for the pictures , i usually do them outside which is quite nice i think but this time the weather was really bad and rainy so i had to go with the quick solution inside and where i could , not the best i could have done , sorry .
When i looked at what was done with the rangers color schemes i found some really amazing work on red/burgundy robes which were absolutely marvelous to see but I wanted to do something we don't see as often and being in the special forces mood i thought some tan and desert sand robes were going to be great looking on them , i chose the orange lining for the sci-fi effect and it looks great on the tan and doing the painting i found out the pants needed to be another color from the fatigues , as well as the underside of the robes so i made my mind for a deep blue like the one the desert tribes of north Africa are still wearing and which is used both as a protection from the sun and a color beacon to be seen from far away in the vast sand lands . So the robes are reversible and can be worn as it is to be camouflaged in the sand for recon missions and if the need is sensed they can wear it on the other side to protect themselves from the harmful rays of the suns on distant desert planets .

Personally, I prefer looking at miniatures like these that have an "achievable" quality, than the golden-demon standard we generally see on the showcase.

I think you've done them well and with the tips given above, your next round of minis will be even better
