Hello,

I have quite a few Deff Koptas that I managed to get used prior to 8th Edition. I'd now like to convert them to counts as Killa Kans since I like the look a bit more and it would fit with my army and my list.

From my perspective the Rokkits and driver is fine, as it the tail. The blades are don't seem necessary and the top rotator could be cut off. I'd also need to remove the skiffs and replace them with legs. I'd also need some sort of saw or grappling arm for the CCW, I have leftover bits from Trukks that I think would be good for this.

My main difficulty is I'm unsure what to make the legs from, I'm considering scratch made but I want to make sure the model is at least 50% GW parts. I'm also trying to keep costs down wherever possible, one of the reasons for using the Deff Koptas.

Bonus points would be if I could find a way to magnetize at least some of the models so they could be actual Koptas if I ever wanted them to be.

You could always peruse some bits sites for dreadnought legs and then chop them up, 1/2 to each 'Kan". That way you've got 50% of the legs orkified GW products, and the other can be anything cheap you like.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.

Never understood the 50% GW rule.
You really play at a GeeDub store? One that's persnikity enough to worry about what percentage of bits you glue to a model they produce, they also produce?
Put whatever you want on them. Make em cool, they're yours.

I agree with this sentiment. I've yet t encounter a GW store manager or any regular players who will call you out on this.

I don't habitually play at a GW store but it's just something I keep in mind as I do go to a lot of events. I don't think I'll have an issue since the Koptas will be a large portion of the model in any case. :]

Fair enough! You could always take a spare screw or nail and horribly disfigure it before attaching to the bottom of the chassis as a makeshift peg-leg of sorts.

Plasticard it. Learn how to rivet with tubes and you can make a very orky kanz leg. You probably need to find a reference somewhere online - but that shouldn't be too much a problem.

My first thought would be to model the kopta at a downward angle (something around 45 degrees) and using longer legs attached near the engine or the base of the bracket that usually holds the propeller. I'm thinking this would give it a hanging carriage kind of look but you would need longer legs to pull it off like the ones they use on sentinels. Your rockets are going to be facing the ground now so I would probably cut them off completely and just add some kind of grill with teef to the front. that will probably help even out the proportions of the model as well since the deff kopta is already pretty long. It would probably be tough to try and add weapons to the front of the model as the legs would get in the way, but you could always add some mounted rockets to the propeller bracket at the top to give it more purpose. To compensate for the melee weapons a Kan would normally carry, I think some dual mounted kill saws to the front would work well as they are thinner and would seem more functional with the space need for the legs to operate.

Sorry that was a lot longer than I expected - Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
