How Do You Think An Action RPG Be Done On Warhammer 40k, Done Well, And Be Lore Friendly?

You would have to be a renegade or pirate of some kind. Wouldnt make much sense for a soldier to be running around all willy nilly ignoring orders and such. Or youd have to be a captain incharge of a large force

I did quite enjoy Dark Heresy (by Black Industries), and its spin offs done by Fantasy Flight

There are some amazing 40k RPG's right now.

All were done by Fantasy Flight Games before GW pulled the IP but the books are out there and loads of people still play/run them.

Dark Heresy (Play Inquisitorial Acolytes on missions)
Rogue Trader (Extremely sandboxy)
Deathwatch (Combat focused RPG)
Black Crusade (Play as Chaotics)
Only War (Guardsmen and related characters).

Now that FFG has been taken out of the loop (happened recently), hopefully GW will either make new RPG's themselves or hand the IP to someone else. Either way, the current ones are brilliant.

Dark Heresy is the most common/ most played. Here's a link about it - https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Dark_Heresy

given he says action RPG, I think he means a video game, ala diablo, and in that case there is the upcoming Inqusitor Martyr. which looks intreasting.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Ah I misunderstood.

In that case, I withdraw my statement xD

An action RPG would be easy. They'd probably go for Space Marines. It'd be right up their alley. Go around, get told by officer/official X there are bad guys at Y, go kill them. Throw in seemingly obligatory Chaos twist.

A proper RPG would be better. though.

You mean like Diablo? Where you kill guys and upgrade your gear with the loot you get?

You'd be an ork.

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

You mean something like this? Where you play as members of the Inquisition.

I get so sad to see such a rich, vast IP being wasted with hit-and-miss and mediocre gaming titles over the years. Imagine an action RPG following a Rogue Trader or Inquisitorial agent and co. with the production budget, voice-acting, gameplay mechanics of the Mass Effect trilogy. Or a first person shooter with the flashy, stylish Hollywood panache of Call of Duty/Battlefield 1, but mixed with the imense scale and grimdarkness of an Imperial Crusade. Or how about a SimCity/Cities: Skylines where you have to build and manage a Hive World?

Such possibilities...

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)

I really want to see a game in the same vein as Shadow of Mordor but instead you are a young Nob working his way up the ranks to become Warboss. The Nemesis system is perfect for Nob Bosses fighting against each other for power and control. Add to that finding loot and scraps to get your Mek to kustomize your gear with more bits and allowing for some crazy kombi shootas or kustom built choppas/klaws.

The world can also have areas with Guard, Tau, Necron, Nids, etc fighting on the planet for variety. Killing tough things can earn EXP for skill points in different skill trees such as a Sneaky Git (Stealth based fighting), Flash Git (shooting and gadgets), Ard Boy (tougher and better at melee), and Boss (boosting your ability to command minions and upgrading their capabilities).

Ride around on Squigs, Bikes, Rokkit Packs, Trukks, Buggies, etc. Smash the enemy, loot shiny bits, beat down other bosses, eventually become the Boss of a Klan, and unite all the Klans under your banner and start a WAAAGH!!!. Could also have elements of recruiting some of the Nobz you beat to be your own underlings and have them also be apart of the whole nemesis system for them to become bigger and stronger (but they might challenge you if they get too uppity).

"Hold my shoota, I'm goin in"
Armies (7th edition points)
7000+ Points Death Skullz
4000 Points
+ + 3000 Points "The Fiery Heart of the Emperor"
3500 Points "Void Kraken" Space Marines
3000 Points "Bard's Booze Cruise"

I remember back in the late 90s that there was a Gorkamorka game being made for the PC and Dreamcast before it got canceled. I actually kind of enjoyed Mad Max for a bit before the scrap collectathon became a bit too much, but the idea of playing a travelling hired gun (select whether you're an EMAIL, Grot, or Digga), assembling your crew and motor pool and taking the, salvaging while trying to get off the planet. It could be one part Mad Max, one part Mount and Blade.

This sounds awesome. Shadow of Morder meets Borderlands!

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

If you want a computer/console game RPG, then I think a basic implementation of Rogue Trader would be the most sandboxy way to play. They could also make Dark Heresy and Deathwatch spinoffs.

As mentioned, there are many many pen and paper RPGs for 40k out there. Though all the FFG ones are now out of print, and kinda expensive. They are very amazing systems though, so if you want to do them I highly recommend them if you can get the books.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
