I know I'm pretty late to the game here with this. Especially now that GW has come out with their own version of truescale, which is all those Primaris dudes actually are. My problem is, I already started this project a while ago and I really want to finish it out. My plan has always been to make a number of small "armies" from different chapters. They ranged in point sizes averaging in the 500 range and none going over 1000. I'm more into the modelling and painting aspect of the hobby and as such don't play very often and don't even mind how the game plays out. I enjoy the fluff and like to make these armies closer to that than not.
My truescaling method is a grotesque doppelganger of Veteran Sergeant's. I currently have three armies on the table for the true scale treatment. I have some Imperial Fists that are in different stages of painting. I have Ultramarines who are on the drafting table and I'm assembling the necessary bits for them and I have some Raven Guard who are in the production phase. Now bear in mind I made these lists based off of the 7th ed point system. I'm not too worried about changing anything for 8th ed, as I stated I'm not too concerned about game outcomes.

This is my rendition of a Raven Guard Shadow Captain.
So what I've done is lengthen his legs and torso. I've thickened his torso and rebuilt the jump pack. I hacked the exhausts off of a standard jump pack and attached them to a standard Space Marine pack. His chest piece is from the Space Wolves, I've shaved off a bunch of the details and cut the wolf skull down to more closely "resemble" a bird skull. His lightning claws are from old metal terminators and the scrolls are from a myriad of different kits.

This is one of the Assault Marines and an obligatory post of height comparison with one of my old Novamarines and an Imperial Guard officer.

Thanks youwashock! I'm really hoping this blog will help garner some ideas from the community on how I could improve on my methods. I finished up the Tactical Squad and I'm hoping to wrap up the Assault Squad this weekend. I'm hoping to get done in time to prime them this weekend. Here are my Tac Squad Marines.

I have equipped all of them with frag and krak grenades and each of them has a holstered pistol, unless of course they have one in their hand. I've also slapped "suppressors" on all of their bolters. They are Raven Guard after all.

I try to customize my models to the point where they actually grow their own personalities.

Sergeant Alvarex just recently assumed command of his squad. His diligent service and natural gifts in the art of stealth warfare made his an easy choice for promotion.

They do have a lot of personality. Are they going to keep the 25 mm bases when you paint them?

I'm actually planning on keeping these bases but I'll be building the base out so it'll probably be closer to the 32mm bases.

I took a look over at your guys youwashock. Very nice work. My green stuff never turns out looking so nice. I've always been a fan of the TerminatorTruescale method. I just couldn't justify spending the money to get those legs when I have so many normal dudes I could just chop up into a bunch of pieces. Lol

Well I'm about done shaving mold lines and will knock out priming tonight. The whole Raven Guard force I had planned is done being built and will be waiting for some paint. I'll get some picture of all of them together before I start painting.

Before that here are some pictures of the Predator I made for them. It's a basic Pred with an Autocannon and two Heavy Bolters. I spruced it up with some antennae, some battle honors on one side, some spotlights over the Heavy Bolters as well as one over the Autocannon. There is a fuel drum on the back and plenty of gear crates on the turret in reach of the cupola.
The Tank Commander I made has a Servitor hanging out with him to assist in spotting enemy locations. I made a Bullpup Bolter for him as well. This will be easier for him to manipulate and conduct reloads while taking cover inside the vehicle.

The is the Raven Guard force fully assembled and primed. I know you can't see much other than black but I'll be working to get more color in there soon.

Thanks youwashock.

I've now moved on to modeling some Ultramarines. I'll keep working on getting paint on the Raven Guard and will post updates on them as I finish units.
I've only been able to finish the Company Champion so far. I'll be doing a whole command squad. I'll post the list of the Ultramarines I'll be making in a follow on post.

This is the Ultramarines 3rd Company Champion, Brother Spurius. Brother Spurius has just recently returned to the company after a decade of service in the 1st Company Vanguards. Spurius volunteered to return after hearing that his former squad leader, Brother Sergeant Caesus, had been selected to replace the recently deceased Captain Mikael Fabian. The now Captain Caesus quickly accepted his old friend's request and named him Company Champion.

So for the Ultramarines battleforce I'll be keeping it pretty plain as far as composition goes.

Command Squad
Captain w/ power sword
Apothecary
Company Champion
Veteran w/ pistol and chain sword
Veteran w/ pistol and powerfist

10 man Tactical Squad
Heavy Bolter
Flames

10 man Tactical Squad
Missile Launcher
Flamer

Stock Dreadnought

Razorback for Command Squad
Rhinos for each Tac Squad

Like I said, pretty plain. I look at this as the most basic maneuver element for them. I just stuck to the old minimum force org chart and added some vehicles and a dreadnought.

Always have liked the Sanguinary Guard weapons. Nice choice.

Thanks! I've always been a fan of their gear too. The problem is just sanitizing it of all of those blood drops.

I've completed building an Ultramarines Apothecary as well as the Captain. The Appthecary is pretty straightforward. I didn't use the provided Apothecary torso though. Not a big fan of the vials. I used a normal torso and kitted him out with various pouches that could hold actual useful items, or some geneseed if necessary. I used a few SG parts to build the Captain as well. The Iron Halo is built in to his helmet instead of on his pack and he has decided to forgo the standard issued Captain cape for better maneuverability.

Lastly, I've started painting up a model for my Raven Guard. The standard Marines will maintain the black pauldrons and helmet. This guy still needs a good bit of work done, just showing some progress.

As always, any critiques or tips are more than welcome.

Slapped some paint on the Raven Guard Tac Squad. I've still got some highlighting to do and add some squad markings as well. I've got a Rhino in the works for them too.

Looking good mate. Really nice job on the Tac narines.

Are you gonna base your minis? I think it'd really take them to the next level.

Thanks guys. I've actually changed a few things about that Captain. And I've decided to add a few lieutenants now that they're a thing. I do plan on basing these guys. I just haven't decided what kind of basing to do yet. I was thinking something lighter to counteract all of the darkness that is the Raven Guard.

A bit of an update. I finally got the new codex. I've decided to forgo building any actual lists now. I'll just be putting together some fluffy battle forces with whatever I think makes sense. Since the last update I've done more reading on the Raven Guard and I've actually put together 25 more Scouts. I like the fact that they're more rigorous with their selection and training process. Not to mention I find a strange satisfaction in watching Scouts duke it out with the horrors of the 41st millennium. They lose quite often. Lol. I'm also working on two tactical squads for the Ultramarines. This is some tedious work and I am constantly stabbing myself in the thumb with an exacto. Not fun.

I've decided to take a little break from chopping and gluing legs and get some vehicles done for the various Chapter motor pools. I've got two Rhinos and a Predator for the Ultramarines. The Predator is the first magnetized vehicle I've done. For the Raven Guard I'm putting together 3 Land Speeders and 2 Land Speeder Storms. The Land Speeders are all old dumpy second hand models. They were all missing chunks and pieces. I always liked the buggy conversions for the Land Speeders and so I dug deep into my bits boxes.

And they're done. What I was going for was something akin to SOF ATVs or GMVs. The weapons are magnetized so that if I ever decide to actually play a game and bring these for some reason, they'll at least be WYSIWYG.

Thanks youwashock. I like how they turned out. I still need to measure them up against a real Landspeeder to see the height difference. That'll be a while though. It's back to hacking up infantrymen for a while.
