So I feel like I'm missing something reeeeeally obvious here, but the AoS Skirmish rulebook, despite claiming "this book contains all the information you'll need to fight skirmish battles" does not appear to have any information on how to fight skirmish battles...

There's a lot of really nice photography, some cool background fluff, some scenarios (these are the "battleplans" right?), point costs for putting together your army, some fun sounding rules on playing a campaign...

But how do you play? Where are the unit stats?

Did the editor accidentally leave out a chapter or something? Am I supposed to just know how to play? I've never played this game before, and am not that familiar with Warhammer, and this isn't the most auspicious start...

yeah so basically you will probably have to learn how to play Age of sigmar then learn how to play skirmish, the rules are in addition to those for age of sigmar.

All the unit stats are are on the warscrolls, free from the net or on the AOS app.

No. The Age of Sigmar Rules are free on GW's website and the unit Warscrolls are available on the miniature's product page.

The rules are also in just about any other AoS battletome, as well as on the free AoS app. One thing AoS is not lacking is access to its core rules.
