I've wanted to give it a try but a few things have me reserved and I was wondering if I could get some clarity.

1) I don't see many elves or old dwarf models being played competitively I am shocked the elves are still lacking a battle tone almost two years in. Are these armies competitive or should I use my lizardmen?I prefer dark elves and a generic dwarves with long beards, ironbreakers etc..

2) I personally prefer a fantasy setting and think the storm casts, new khardrons, and even the new wood elves look worse than their old counterparts. (I don't care about the rules this is aesthetic preference) Do you think all of the armies will get this new aesthetic treatment? (At least my lizardmen have stayed the same so far)

3) How close are all of the armies in power level? I hear a lot of positive about the game state It just looks scattered to me based on randomness of building an army with all of the wanderers etc.

Currently as a general rule the newer battle tome armies are more competitive due to having unique allegiance traits (bone splittas, sylvaneth, beastclaw, stormcast). That isn't to say there are no competitive builds with other factions but it can be mire of a struggle,

As for aesthetic I'm personally a fan of the new direction but would say each release has had its own unique appearance so couldn't swear to how others would look except that the two Aelves from silver tower are cues as to how the new Shadow Aelves will look

Soon his foes would learn that the only thing more dangerous than a savage three hundred pound brute is a savage three hundred pound brute with a plan - Ork Codex

alright

1) Competatively speaking, by themselves both elves and dwarves are meh, compared to the rest of order they don't really DO much compared to others in the competative scene...

2) New wood elves? Sylvaneth is all trees man, But this is kinda the new direction for AoS...

3) Armies are pretty well leveled with each other, with some being full on cheese (Disciples of Tzeench being the biggest offender)

Wood Elves/Wanderers have made up the core of some tournament winning lists, but you do need to compliment them with allies from across the Order faction. Get about 90 Glade Guard and a couple of Waywatcher Heroes and they become real nasty when you throw Hurricanums, Fulminators, Hellstorm Rocket Batteries and Kurnoth Hunters into the mix with them.

Mono armies tend to struggle, but you still see them at tournaments because players like them.

Hordes of Dwarf Crossbowmen backed up with Rune Lords are particualry nasty. *Again* adding a Hurricanum makes them even better.

Moral of the story: Hurricanums

Thanks for the replies all! I will most likely wait and see how the elves are treated and if not grow my lizardmen some more. I was just curious about the state of armies specifically of dwarf and elf variety.

If you like the Dwarves, look at the FyreSlayers, they are nasty and almost every hit is a mortal wound. Competing against others they hold their own or at least the lists I have seen played definitly do.
