New Path to Glory book coming.

"Previously Path to Glory existed only as part of the GHB, but this release expands upon the ruleset there, most notably with rules for every single Warhammer Age of Sigmar Army..."

Of course it doubtfully addresses the primary complaint about Path to Glory... that being random warbands and followers mean random power levels and you can often find yourself either grotesquely powerful or woefully underpowered in your campaign group. However... narrative groups are typically more keen to houserule so that can be circumvented.

My soul is ready for this.

I really hope it does something to fix the glaring imbalances, I mean Skirmish isn't too balanced but at least it has SOME guidelines. I love the concept of Path to Glory but nobody I know will touch it because nobody wants to be the guy rolling up with some Plague Monks and a Plague Priest and facing off against what would be 2000+ points of Stormcast with a Lord on Stardrake.

It does free up space in the General's Handbook 2 for new content, so that's a good thing.

I agree that it needs to fix some imbalances or at least I hope it does. If it goes the way of the Skirmish then it will. As far as you running 1000pts of Clans Pestilens against a 2000pt Star Drake battalion, we fixed that to where if you are playing an opponent that may not be able to field what you can you take a hero and adjust your Path to Glory points to play down to your opponents level that way it makes it fun for all players.

Honestly, my biggest gripe with Skirmish is the insistence on plastic models only.

Wanderers got one Hero option. The Nomad Prince, who isn't available to purchase currently and hasn't been able to be purchased in quite awhile.
No Waywatchers, no Wayfinders, no Waystriders, no Sorceress.

And then we get into the fact that for whatever reason, we had some weird caveats on characters and Renown costs. A character that makes PERFECT sense in the context of this(Lord-Aquilor on Gryph-Charger) gets left out...but my Black Ark Fleetmaster is 8 Renown(?) and Corsairs are 2 each?

So confused. It's like whoever wrote the Renown costs had a dartboard and just threw at it.

We ran a successful Path to Glory league at our flgs. There was essentially a gentleman's agreement that people not try to min-max their forces, along with a stipulation that while you needed to record one game every week you chose who it was against; you didn't have to play anyone. Accordingly if someone made an OP force, they wouldn't have any games.

However, that this idea worked hinged on the community and the fact that we picked our initial warbands and only rolled randomly for reinforcements.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

The US webstore show the Nomad Prince as 'Usually ships within 24 hrs'.

That would work for most of my group but there are a couple guys that will get pretty frustrated and angry when you put gentlemen's agreements on not min/maxing, because they feel that there is no such thing, its only smart play picking a maxed list.

That's annoying, because I have an email alert on it and got NOTHING. He wasn't available as of Sunday.

We wouldn't let them play then. Not to be rude, but we work for the enjoyment of many and ignore the whiny few who cannot actually play for the fun of the group. We had a couple guys who were like that and we slowly forced them out which seemed awful but I would rather lose a couple of players than lose a bunch of players. Needless to say one of them has come back and his attitude has changed and he gets along with everyone now.

I really do think Path to Glory is dependent on other players regulating themselves... As you are basically going to play a specialized campaign filled with random events and such... You could agree on penalties such as swelling ranks in exchange for renown, or instead of getting troops you just add more troops to the unit, just kinda plan all this in advance...

I think GW kinda gave us a basic set of rules and just said "you guys fill out the blanks". Is it lazy? Probably, but it does allow you to create some very interesting stories and lore about your dudes... which I'm always on board for.

There's also the factor that if they put points or some other balance mechanism in, it suddenly becomes an excuse for many people to min-max. If there is only loose structure than many people who would otherwise min-max can be receptive to self-regulating. Using free-for-all battles can also help, since people will gang up on the strong guy for mutual survival. I think GW intends for Path to Glory to be on the narrative/self-balanced side of things and that's OK. But they could still improve the tables a fair bit, since stuff like 5 plague monks doesn't make any sense. A mechanism to increase unit size would also be nice, something like instead of rolling for an additional unit you can increase the size of an existing one by 50% the base value, with a maximum size of double the base value.

The thing is though by default you don't have to randomly generate you can pick so with no points there's nothing stopping people from min-maxing anyway. You can even inadvertently do it if you have a cool idea that happens to you some good choices
