The new Imperial Armour Index books popped up in the post today (https://ttgamingdiary.wordpress.com/2017/06/19/review-index-imperial-armour/). Good on Forge World for getting them out so quickly.

I am going to be about for the next couple of hours, and would be happy to answer any questions anyone has!

Not sure I can really help with that (!), as I never used either of those units in the previous edition. Good on you for having a Reaver though! If you follow the link in the OP, I believe there is a photo the Reaver page, though you may have to squint.

No, no chapter rules for anyone.

Ah well. I was wondering if maybe we'd get an idea as to how they work before the main SM book comes out.

Just got mine too. Very fast for my standards so kudos there.
I was dissapointed/surprised to notice however, that the book contains no lore at all. It's all datasheets. I can understand the GW indices to not have lore, being a stand in and all, but why Imperial armour? No pictures of units either.

Also, the book has a picture of a ferrus infernum dread on the cover but none in the book :(

I really want to stick with Death Guard this time, rather than jumping between armies... but Death Korps could be so good now... damn it.

Let's see... 40 Wounds, T9, Sv 3+, plus a 4+ Void Shield, plus a 5+ Invun.

For weapons, it sports four twin Lascannon (ouch!), three twin Heavy Bolters, and a Hellstrike Missile Battery (Heavy 4, S8, SP-3, D3). Carries 50 models, or 25 with a Rhino.

I kind of expected that - I think they just wanted to make sure people had their hands on the rules as quickly as possible. No doubt there are bigger hardbacks containing all the lore on their way...

No, but it still has the void-shield-projection mechanic. Go into hover mode and everyone within 8" gets your void shield (starts at a 4++ that can block mortal wounds).

I have both indexes from 4chan, so if anyone's really desperate you can do on /tg/, find the 40k general thread and grab then from there. Most things are roughly as you'd expect for the astartes but the roc pattern storm eagle is pretty crazy with a total of 10 S8 and 4 S9 shots for 403 points. Definitely worth considering playing Minotaurs just for that option.

And for those too impatient for shipping and too leery of 4chan digital copies are up at Black Library or the iBooks store. Not going to reprint everything from the Deredeo but I will tell you that its firepower for the price isn't really worth writing home about; you'd usually be better off with an ordinary Mortis or Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnaught, except that the Helical Targeting Array has been stripped off the Contemptor-Mortis and stuck on the Deredeo.

(But yeah. Take the Contemptor-Mortis. 5PL/100pts cheaper, you get almost the same level of firepower (more, in some cases; two S10 lascannon shots that do mortal wounds on a 6 for damage aren't a patch on four S9 lascannon shots) and pretty similar durability.)

Bit much to type out all the rules - but what weapons fit have you got, I think I can do something for that!

I have the autocannons and the missle launchers that sit on top.

Does this book have the Imperial Knights of Forgeworld? I'm debating picking it up if the Atrapos/Lancer/e.t.c. are in the Imperium book.

Ah ha - same as our Salamanders player (I went for the Plasma Carronade myself )

Okay, so we are talking a T7 model with W14 and 3+ save (with 5+ invun, 4+ in close combat). If you don't move, you get +1 to hit flyers.

Your Anvillus Autocannon Batter gives you Heavy 8, S8, AP-1, D2, while the Aiolos Missile Launcher is Heavy 2D3, S6, AP-1, D1.

Enjoy!

No - I believe they are coming in the next couple of Imperial Armour books in two weeks (though the Chaos book has the Traitor Knights which give you a pretty good idea of where they are going).

Hi.

The chaos book has all the dataslates and profiles for all FW Knights.

The loyalist versions of them (which may or may not have differing special rules [probably just reworded to sound less chaosy but be identical]) will be in Astra Militarum book that's out in a couple days.

Elam is maybe the only FW character I hadn't seen the rules on.

On moon miranda.

Jesus, looking at the Space Marine superheavies, they really went out of their way to steal the IG's thunder on superheavy tanks. While SM big tanks are a bit more expensive than the IG ones, they're dramatically more resilient and no less shooty, often moreso.

Both point for point and unit for unit they appear to be starkly superior in most cases. Looking at the Fellblade vs Baneblade for example and this appears to be particularly stark.

The basic Fellblade ends up about 150pts more expensive than a Baneblade with two sponsons (717 vs 567pts), but it's got BS3+ over BS4+, T9 over T8 and a 2+sv over a 3+ (which makes more of a difference in the age of ASM's), has PotMS ignoring move and fire penalties to heavy weapons, and has an obscene amount of anti-tank firepower with 8 Lascannons plus the demo cannon and main gun.

Even giving the Baneblade to it's 4 sponson layout with 4 Lascannons and a total of 5 TL HB's coupled with Demo cannon and Autocannon and BB cannon, the BB comes in at 635pts and it's nowhere near matching the Fellblade on resiliency and probably still not matching it's firepower with its Fellblade Cannon and Demo Cannon and 8 Lascannons and TL HB plus another potential Heavy Bolter/Flamer or MM.

Judging by Power Levels it looks just as bad, a Fellblade comes in at 35 Power, normal Baneblade clocks in at 30 Power, not much of a difference given the level of power difference there. It'd take ~34 BS4 Lascannon shots to kill a Fellblade, only 20 BS4 Lascannons to kill a Baneblade, or 1,872 BS4 Lasguns to kill the Fellblade vs "only" 936 to kill the Baneblade.

That's a pretty stark gap in power between these units for their relative costs.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Aren't the SM characters in the book, just not the chapter? I'm wondering what Lias Issodon does now.

BTW the 4chan threads don't seem to have the book link anymore.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

Have you guys taken a look at the Relic Leviathan Dread? One of those with dual Grav Bombards is capable of one shotting anything from a Russ tank to a 20 infantry horde. It will be good at mowing down elite units too. Primaris will go down just as easy as conscripts to this thing, even Kastelans will die in droves to it. Hell, with above average dice it is capable of one rounding a Knight.

This is the first thing I've seen that seems truly broken to me.

He's got a D2 Power Sword and Malice is super cool. It's AP4 at S5 I think and doesn't allow cover modifiers. Lastly he and three other infantry squads can get Infiltrate Lite, with the 9" qualifier like Deep Strike stuff.
