A super short batrep this time around; my friend challenged me to a 1000 point match against his Space Marines - wasn't sure what I wanted to bring, but while discussing potential tournament lists; he gave me the idea for a Dakkajet army. Which leads us to my list:

Flyboyz list:
Air Wing Detachment:
Dakkajet (6 Supa-shootas)
Dakkajet (4 Supa-shootas)
Dakkajet (4 Supa-shootas)
Wazbomm Blastajet (2 Wazbom Mega Kannons, Smasha gun, KFF)
Air Wing Detachment:
Dakkajet (6 Supa-shootas)
Dakkajet (6 Supa-shootas)
Dakkajet (6 Supa-shootas)

Crimson Fists list:
Pedro Kantor - 170
Captain with PF - 92
2 tac squads with MLs - 180
1 tac squad; sarge with bolt pistol and chainsword; another dude with a flamer - 73
1 assault squad with meltabombs and dual flamers - 88
1 dev squad with 4 MLs -165
3 rhinos with stormbolters - 216

The dice were rolled for the mission and the deployment - we got "No Mercy" (which was great for the Orkz; they didn't have the ability to contest objectives), and "Vanguard Strike" (diagonals).

The Orkz chose the southern deployment zone, and deployed into two groups - a squad of four jets (3 Dakkajets (x6 Supa-Shootas), 1 Wazbomm Blastajet) on the north side, and a squad of 3 jets (2 Dakkajets (x4 Supa-Shootas), 1 Dakkajet (x6 Supa-Shootas)) on the south side. Meanwhile, the Crimson Fists deployed in a tight ball at the top right of the map, hiding in the trees/crater; surrounded by Rhinos.

The Orkz finished deployment first, but the Crimson Fists seized the first turn. Unleashing all their missiles on the jets, they managed to hit and wound with three - however, Orkz da' toughest around, and made two out of three 6+ saves - ultimately, only taking 2 damage on a Dakkajet.

The Ork turn rolls around, and all the jets fly forward in their formations - they unleash all their guns on the Devastator squad in the woods, and end up killing 4/5 models; one missile launcher left in that group. 1000 points of dakka killing 4 marines in cover... tough bastards, but not tougha den da' Orkz!.

The game ended up going all the way to turn 7; but with the primary source of missiles significantly crippled, the Crimson Fists lost their main ability to deal with all the jets of the Flyboyz - the final casualties had two Dakkajets down, compared to the entire force of the Crimson Fists; save a Rhino who hung on with 3 wounds remaining. The final few turns for the Flyboz were mostly maneuvering around, and cleaning up the remaining marines.

The first Dakkajet went down to a spectacular hit from a Krak missile, which must have hit the fuel tank because it exploded in a fiery wreck; inflicting significant (d3) mortal wounds on his two squadmates, and the three nearby opposing rhinos. Also took out the final marines in a Tactical Squad as well!

The second Dakkajet tenaciously held on with 1 wound remaining - until a rhino rolled nearby and shot it out of the sky with it's stormbolter. Unfortunately for the Crimson Fists however... Pedro Kantor was nearby. The Dakkajet explodes in a glorious ball of flame, and catching a couple squadmates in the blast - but more importantly, Pedro Kantor! The exploding jet takes off the final two wounds of Pedro Kantor.

The opponent had a very strong list that has tabled many an opponent - but was ill-equipped to handle this many flying units, with 12 wounds, Sv4+, and applying a -1 to hit for their enemies; additionally, their main anti-armor was gathered into a single devastator squad; one that is normally able to hid behind a wall of rhino steel, but that was not the case against a flying army that can draw LOS from above. Especially when the flying force is able to concentrate it's entire arsenal from up to 36" away on a single squad.

Again however, if it was any other mission - I'd probably have lost, HARD. Being unable to really contest objectives short of killing everything is... what it is. Additionally, making two 6+ saves from the initial missiles was a pivotal moment as well - without those two saves, I was very likely to have lost a jet, and a significant chunk of firepower. Could have been a whole different game tbh.

The Dakkajets can output a SURPRISING amount of concentrated firepower; I've always loved bringing one in my lists, but after this game (and a different one I played before), I'll probably be start bringing two. Their ability to reach the backline and shoot critical targets is fantastic. The Wazbomm Blastajet is nice, but it really didn't do much this game - the KFF is great since it can keep up with the rest of the jets, though it ended up not applying much here - more testing to be done. The Wazbomm Mega Kannons, despite being 2d3 attacks, are entirely unreliable - hitting on 5+s makes them nearly pointless. The Smasha Gun on the other hand is probably the best weapon the Blastajet has; 4+ to hit, pretty solid odds to wound most targets (even better against infantry), an AP-4 and d6 damage - it kills stuff when it does hit.

I have to admit though, the Flyboyz were rolling hot all game, and the Crimson Fists got unluck with their hits/wounds here and there... but, that's Warhammer 40k sometimes, I guess.

Final thoughts: This was a list I made for fun, and ended up having a very fun game (not just cause I won, though that does feel good, lol). Additionally, spend the 20 points to get two extra Supa-Shootas on your Dakkajets if you can afford it - the difference in damage output is tremendous.

Final state of the game: http://imgur.com/m4Ewu75

*I used an online list builder - the total came out to 991/1000; but reviewing this list again - it didn't take into account the price of the Smasha Gun on the Wazbomm Blastajet... so I was over my total by 9 points. Ultimately, I could have dropped the Blastajet and replaced it with a Dakkajet with 6 Supa-Shootas and came out below 1000; probably would have amounted to the same game result, since the KFF really did nothing - but the Smasha Gun took some solid wounds here and off models, so... I could have also pulled off a Supa-Shoota somewhere to cover the difference as well; so, unfortunate, but not too bad I suppose. Things got overkilled enough for it not to have mattered.
