Has anyone taken a look at the IA xenos book? Somethings in it kinda stand out to me. Look at the tau units and some of it seems kinda.....broken? The gunships are amazing for the points, the XV9s are only a tad bit more expensive then the normal crisis suit and come with 2 double burst cannons. So you can have 1 suit put out assault 16 burst cannon shots. The barracuda is WTF, the R'Varna is a way better and cheaper then a riptide.

Anything else stand out to you guys in the IA books?

Gargantuan squiggoths are good. Damned good.

Kustom stompas are reaaaaaaaaaaly bad. Or, at best, overpriced. 3 arm, 1 head, 1 body option, that's it. Buzz gobs stompa is now 1200, with a belly gun.

In fairness, 300 was always too cheap, but 1200 is ridiculous. Same price as a taunar, I'm told.

Honestly the book is riddled with mistakes and issues.

Tau tigershark can never shoot it has macro weapons isn't titanic and has a forced move.

Eldar nightwing and Phoenix are listed as fast attack not flyers.

The eldar revenant even though it has unique pulsars is the only titan in the game without macro weapons???

Vampire Hunter has 2 sets of twin pulsers the model doesn't have those it does have missile bays which it didn't get rules for...

New stompa is more expensive for the same loadout as the in the book one and the lifta droppa is the shittiest garbage ever.

Corsair units and irrilyth fw clearly doesn't know how morale works period. Irillyth unlike other Phoenix lords actually debuffs your own units wtf. Corsair you can choose to roll 2 dice for moral and discard the lowest doing this causes you to lose 1 more model. You can make yourself roll a higher number and then add an additional one... what the actual ....

Misanthrope missing 100 points somewhere.

How are the Ork units this time around?

I'm more interested in the Grot tanks/Grot Megatank/Killtanks; Orks don't have a dedicated tank-esque vehicle (the battlewagon is the best bet we've got), and I find myself missing the Looted Tank options.

Maybe FW can give me some tanks to play with.

Vampire Hunter has one twin Pulsar. It's the same gun on the Scorpion.

Corsairs are supposed to run away more easily. They're self-serving mercenary pirates; the rule from 7th that's replacing gave them -2 or -3 to their Ld when regrouping after they'd run. That said two dice drop lowest and lose one extra model together seem really punishing, especially when you're paying more than equivalent Craftworld/Dark Eldar units for similar performance. If the full book comes with Barons/Princes that mitigate morale it'll make some actual sense.

Revenant isn't the only Titan in the game without macro-weapons. It has gone from the biggest thing in the scout-Titan tier to the middle (300pts cheaper than a Warhound), so it's ended up closer to a Stompa than a full-size Titan. It's underarmed by comparison to other full Titans, but it's also a lot cheaper.

(There is a lot of weirdness in the book (Corsairs lost nine unit entries, need to borrow Craftworld vehicles since they don't have their own anymore, and have no buff-interactions except the Tantalus' Ld aura from a random Archon tagging along to replace the deleted Corsair Prince, and what's left is a lot more expensive than it should be given comparable Craftworld/Dark units and the quality of the special rules), but those bits do make at least a bit of sense.

Vampire actually has vampire pulsars which are d6 damage still unlike a scorpions 3 damage one. And I didn't mean its main gun the new profile has 2 twin pulse lasers something the model doesn't actually have instead of its.missile bays. (This is not even a complaint I own one this is way better than missiles but like its not a weapon the physical model has and instead doesn't have a weapon that covers the whole underside of it)

The regrouping rule was okay in 7th the new rule means 1 casualty and your whole unit of bikers could be dead drop lowest and lose a full extra model is 3 bikes dead at the price of one and they are very expensive 40+ points a piece.

In terms of the revenant the stompa has always been on the lower side compared to the true titans and warhounds and revenants are fluffwise meant to duke it out. But warhounds are now both more durable and shootier than a revenant it does cost more I just can't see a reason to ever field a revenant when the vampire has the same gun at 300 points less. Also ridiculous is you can't buff eldar titans as they no longer share a key word beyond aeldari instead they gave them covenant so you can't use psychic powers on them...

This is wrong. Read more closely. When Irillyth is on the board, Irillyth and friendly Shadow Spectres units both create 18" bubbles within which enemy units roll an additional die for morale checks, discarding the lowest die rolled before determining the results.

It's a broken rule because it's OPTIONAL to roll the extra die. You can voluntarily make your roll worse in exchange for suffering more casualties if you fail it, which makes no sense. The clear intent of the rule was that you roll three dice and drop the highest die, making the trade a better chance of passing the roll in exchange for worse consequences if you fail. That's a trade that makes sense and people would actually use. But apparently FW/GW put zero effort into playtesting 8th edition and just shoveled out some garbage to see if people would still buy it.

Lashwhip pods are dumb and definitely don't allow it to make 18 melee attacks at strength 10, AP-1, 2 damage. It definitely doesn't have the ability to transport a unit of up to 20 Genestealers, Termagants or Hormagants, or up to 6 Hive Guard, Tyrant Guard, or Tyranid Warriors, and certainly cannot also transport a Tyranid Prime or Broodlord in addition to whichever one of the above it chooses. It also definitely doesn't have a 2+ save or a 5++ invulnerable save on top of 50 wounds.

It's bad and terrible. You should never take it.

Awesome. That is definitely the best use of a bio-titan with a 48" range potentially S20 six shot gun that can deal 2d6 damage at AP-2.

Am I reading this wrong...

Lightning Assault - On any TURN in which this model advances, your opponent subtracts -1 to hits for attacks that targets this model in the Shooting Phase.

So it does nothing... Since Turns are personal, and your opponent probably won't be shooting you during your own shooting phase (and you won't be advancing during his turn)

I just bought FW:Xenos Index,

I don't understand their fascination with making every Ork vehicle a transport of some time - and then the ONE vehicle that SHOULD be open-topped, the Chinork Warkopta; it isn't. I guess it can cut down on deployments though, which could be kinda cool?

Like seriously; let us deep strike our 10 shooting units nearby, or at least let us hop out so we can charge in the same turn - it should have some "rapid deployment" rule; the Chinork Warcopta deep strikes, then any models can disembark. For each model disembarking, roll a d6 - on a 1, they suffer a mortal wound. I'd take either Open-Topped or Rapid Deployment; the second one is technically easier to balance, as the units are then vulnerable to shooting.

That said, I love the 6d6 BS4+ Giga Shooter Kill Tank; even though it's pretty pricey. I don't like that embarked models only hit on 6's though; 5+ is hard enough... The Battlewagon with Supa-Kannon is long range multi-kannon dakka; but bs5+ makes it a REAL gamble, for the price cost.

Big Trakk Supa-Skorcha seems like it's best loadout; 24" autohitting 4d3 flamer? This should melt air units - and it has an additional -1 AP over the 4 Flakk shots! I think the Flakk gun is just too weak from any angle; 4+ shooting against flyers for 1 damage, at the cost of 6+ against any other target? The only advantage is +24" range over the Skorcha, but...

At 168 points per Big Trakk/Supa-Skorcha combo, they'll probably be a go-to unit in many lists; 24" range, but 14" movement for 4d3, S6, AP-2 auto hits? 1 damage per, but who cares with that much fire?

I don't get what they're doing with most of the Ork units in FW:Xenos.

That said, overall, I like the increased vehicle-tank options; it's nice to have something closer to a battletank than an armored transport. I was also really hoping that Zhadsnark let us run bikers as troops, rip. Mek Buzzgob is nothing more than a repair bot - but he does it pretty decently. Lifta Droppa autohitting is nice, but the strength is pretty random, as are the number of hits. 1 mortal wound, is that really enough for the gun? I guess it can be sort of decent anti-air with the auto hits; but a max of 6 mortal wounds if you're lucky means its damage potential is ultimately pretty low.

Have these rules been leaked or do you guys all have the books?

EDIT: Either way, what's happened to Corsairs? Are Princes still a thing? I looked in the index preview and there didn't seem to be any sign of HQ units for them.

T8, 4 up save, 35 sounds, 20 open topped transports cap, 8 attacks, hits on 3/4/5, str 12/10/8, d6 mortal wounds to anything it charges on a 2up.

Can't fall back without penalty, but it and occupants can fire normally if in cc, though not at units within 1".

Supa lobbas has 3d6 shots, str7, ap -1, d1, can take 2. All that for 481 points, cheaper than last time, less than half the price of a stompa and almost as good.

It's S10, unless I'm missing something. It does get double damage against titanic units. Pretty scary.

Edit: oh yeah, the overcharge. S20 for d3 wounds on self.

The tau entries seem mostly decent with the Ycvhara and r'varna both seeming pretty good. Sad to see that remoras don't have nearly the utility of last edition though. The alternative commander suits both seem pretty meh as does the unique commanders. The barracuda and the tiger sharks both seem expensive but packing some serious firepower.

Lastly the Tau'nar, why can't it fall back and shoot normally? A squad of charging grots can stop it from shooting for a whole turn, pretty much every big walker can do it so why can't this one. It's guns seem pretty good though, with the possible exception of the railgun, which suffers from the one shot weapon syndrome
