I'm attempting to view the Imperial Armor- Index Xenos .epub that was purchased from this site: https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Imperial-Armour-Index-Xenos-ePub-fw?_requestid=16534589

I have tried about 5 Windows 10 applications, including Calibre, Nook, and a few others I dont remember the name of.

So far, almost every single one of them completely screws with the layout of the .epub, cause entire pages of just a few giant letters, blank pages, pages with blank tables, etc. The only one that seems to keep the format is Calibre, however it is so damn small that its unreadable, and Calibre doesnt have any way of zooming in on the image.

I have found if I load it on my android phone, it loads nicely using the default google ebook reader, and most importantly, I can zoom to read the profiles with the classic inverse pinch motion.

I cant be the only person having this issue, can I? I imagine that nearly everybody who is getting their hands on the new 8th Forgeworld rules must be using the .epub, since their FLGS doesnt carry the FW books like they do for GW.

I've used the epub plugin for Firefox, and Adobe Digital Editions to open other GW epubs with no issues.

You're looking specifically for something that can handle epub3 files.

The Warhammer Digital site has this to say:"

+ Devices and software

Any device that can download eReader software is capable of running at least some of our digital products. Some products are only available in specific formats that can be used on particular devices.

We recommend Apple iPads and iPhones for the widest compatibility. Many of our eBooks are also compatible with most Android devices and computers, though you may need to download additional software. Please note that Enhanced Editions are only compatible with Apple devices.

For Apple devices including iPhones, iPads and Mac computers, iBooks is the best software to use.

For Android, we recommend Kobo or Gitden. Both are compatible with ePub and ePub3 files.

For Windows phones, we recommend Azardi, which is compatible with ePub and Mobile editions.

For Windows tablets and PCs, we recommend Azardi.

Please note that ePub3 files are not compatible with any Kindle devices. "

Can confirm that Azardi does indeed work on Windows 10. It was the first program that I got a printable copy of anything from the Astartes book on my computer.

It is free and all that, which is good.

Yeah, it sucked for me when they stopped using the mobi format. The best reader I could find for my Kindle HD only showed the epub page in one quarter of the screen, and no ability to zoom in. But, I'm considering upgrading to a new tablet, possibly a S3.

Kobo works without any issues but that's not on Windows I don't think.

Redium, a chrome app, is excellent on windows. As is Azardi. I use Kobo on android and everyone with an iPad seems to say iBooks works fine.

If you're building an army list to print or whatever, epub3 files are actually just zip files full of xml and html5 files. If you change their extention to .zip and extract them you can get at the html pages for specific entries and view them in a web browser and print from there.

Though to be honest, most monitors these days are high enough resolution it's probably easier to just to hit print screen and take a screen shot and past it into your free graphics program of choice like GIMP or paint.NET or whatever.

It is indeed astounding that apparently nobody can make a PC program that could display epubs without errors.

I've also used Azardi on PC and simply use Google Books* on my android devices.

*For some reason it takes ages for Books to 'process' the file when I first upload it, but once it's done, it works fine.

Readium plug in for chrome works well as does Kobo for android.
some android readers will import the book but will struggle to load them properly with contents links.

Adobe digital editions work for me in general, but they don't allow you to zoom in on the pc? for some reason.

The default browser for Windows 10 is called Edge and it supports epubs.

Play books is great to use but for the Rulebook it's not worked as it will only process files of 100mb where the rulebook is nearly 180mb.

I have tried a lot and most haven't worked either. I have had some success with Lithium and the page displays correctly. The issue is if you zoom in then the text disappears.

I will give Kobo a try later. I downloaded the app but couldn't work out how to actually open the file

Edit: struggling with Kobo. I only seem to be able to get books from the kobo store. I can't seem to find away to import existing ebooks that I own. You can sideload with Calibre if you have a Kobo reader but I only have the app. Not sure how else to do this. Oh well. Will stick to Lithium.

On android adding books to kobo is up at the top right. Hit the three dots, then "import items."

I just updated to the Windows 10 Creators Update so I could try the books in Edge. It doesn't support epub3, only the older epub specification commonly used for novels and the like. So no go there.

Ha! You're right. I honestly did check there. I think it might have something to do with it being on my HD Fire where I sideloaded the play store on to it.. I have that option for my Android Sony phone. Will give it a try and let you know the results.

Don't have this option on Windows.

Edit: Yeah! Thanks frozenwastes, got it working on my Phone. Will try my Fire HD later. Hopefully it's synced between the 2 and I'll be able to get it to work on that too!

I use calibre on my pc and it will export books to my lenovo android tab just fine with it. I used to have a kobo e-reader.

Tab uses a couple of readers - because some files just won't be read outside of one particular reader, whereas the other one will read just about anything.

I gave Adobe Digital Editions a try and I can't zoom in at all. Every time I try it zooms for a fraction of a second and instantly snaps back to showing an entire page at once. Redium lets me zoom though, so it's alright. I was just hoping for even more features from Adobe like better searching within the document and stuff like that.

I didn't think to try that really. I've not gone in too deep with Calibre and was just going from a thread about Kobo readers. Calibre looks to be a great program. I didn't get to involved with it so found it a bit tricky to use. I'm sure though if I sat down with it it would be amazing. I have been able to get Kobo to work and it works great! I think the issue I had was me not liking to sign up to anything that I might not use. Signing into Kobo via Fb and I was able to import as frozenwastes said and I have imported all my books. Kobo is great because you can zoom in and move the page about.

Thanks frozenwastes.
