At the end of week five I was the only player in the league with 15 promethium caches. This meant I’d have to face down a mystery house army to win the campaign. I was informed that the enemy team would be either Necrons, Orks, or Tau, and that they would have enough upgrades to be a challenge for a 5th week team.

GAME 11: HIT & RUN (SHOCK TACTICS) – GUARD vs ORKS

FORCES: The Kasrkin Dead Men consist of Sergeant Stabbity (power swords, +1W, +1 Init., +1A, Frenzy), three plasmagunners (clip harnesses), and six veteran troopers (hellguns). All have carapace armour, camo gear, improved gunsights, and either a chainsword or assault blade for backup.

The mystery house army turned out to be an ork team. They had a boss with a power klaw and kombi-shoota, two spanna boys with big shootas, a dozen or so boyz, 1000 points of resupplies, and ten advancements.

PRE-BATTLE:
Spoiler:

The random mission was Hit & Run with the Kasrkin Dead Men on defense. They would begin the game with only two fighters. Plasmagunner Sheldon stood guard atop the eastern end of the central platform, while plasmagunner Skinner Jr. deployed on the top floor of a ruin on the west side.

The secret objective for the Ork team was Shock Tactics. They’d be deploying on the east side and trying to reach the west side. The orks would claim victory if even a single ork made it off the board. The two spannas and two other boyz deployed in the open near Sheldon’s position, while the boss rallied a group of four boyz in the northeast corner.
Spoiler:

BATTLE: The orks got the first action. The spanna boyz held their position and fired on Sheldon, while the two slugga boyz with them made a break for the ladder to the central platform. Sheldon moved up and fired on the slugga boyz, taking one out of action and weathering several thousand rounds of big shoota fire before he was critically injured.

Meanwhile, the boss and his mob had charged about a third of the way up the board along the northern edge. Skinner Jr. was able to get a lucky shot off at the boss through a window of an intervening ruin. Plasmagunner Rockso arrived on the north side, found cover behind some pipes, and delivered a killing blow. Rockso eventually went down to returning fire, but with the ork leader down, the northern push was blunted.
Spoiler:

Kasrkin hellgunners arrived to keep the enemy pinned down, and finally the frenzied Sergeant Stabbity charged in to finish them off.

Back on the south side, the spanna boyz and final slugga boy moved up unmolested.
Spoiler:

The Dead Men were able to reinforce the southern edge with a single guardsman. They knew there was only one man for the job…
Spoiler:

Trooper Deadeye had been the last man standing in the disastrous Harlequin assault in game 6. He had emerged from that defeat with ice in his heart and had spent every spare moment since training with his hellgun (He rolled the Fast Shot skill advancement).

Deadeye double-checked his hellgun and chainsword and rushed out onto the battlefield. He took cover behind a pipe on the south side and opened fire on the orks. He was utterly fearless in the face of the spanna boyz’ returning fire, and managed to kill one ork outright and gravely wound a second before the final spanna boy was able to move into a position where he’d have a clean shot.
Spoiler:

The spanna boy fired. Deadeye collapsed to the ground in a bloody heap, but he still managed to unsheathe his chainsword and crawl a few meters closer to his opponent before he fell unconscious.

Deadeye’s efforts had not been in vain. He had bought time for the victorious force in the northwest and new reinforcements from the southwest to line up their shots. The gloom of the sprawl was washed away by their vengeful hellgun volleys, and the final spanna boy was downed.

At the sight of the armored Dead Men closing in from all around them, the two grievously injured spanna boyz decided to leg it back home. Control of this battlefield and the whole of the Promethium Sprawl went to the Kasrkin Dead Men.

Spoiler:

Thanks for reading. If anyone has C&C I could use to improve my batreps, please feel free to comment.
