So being in the midst of the draft for the new season, I think it's as good a time as any to get the new thread going.

Detroit fans are largely unhappy with our selection last night. Many seem to feel that for the highest pick we've had in 26 years, we spent it on a guy who should have been around 18th pick instead of 9th.

Me, jury is still out. We'll see.

Blues did surprisingly well...

We had 2 1st rounders and parlayed those into:
1) Robert Thomas 20th overall.
2) Trade + Jori Lehtera for PHI Brayden Schenn (25g / year scorer).

In addition, traded Ryan Reaves+picks to Pitts for the 31st pick to select what might be the steal of the draft in Klim Kostin and Pitt's prospect C Oskar Sundqvist.

Frankly... I'm tickled pink that Lehtera and his contract is gone.

The consensus around the NHL world is that the Wings just shot themselves in the foot with this draft.

We didn't draft bad players, but we consistently chose worse, then what was available at the time. According to the talking heads at least.

Everyone seems to be in agreement though that the goalie we picked has some serious potential. At 6'5" jeeebuz. That's a big man.

So much goodness about the Blues offseason. Getting Schenn was an awesome move IMO.

Crappy news. Our top goal scorer is going to arbitration. He see's Detroit isn't going to be a contender for the next 5 or so years, so he's jumping ship as quick as possible.

Demanded an unreasonable amount in contract negotiations, so it's going to arbitration. He'll get a one year deal, then be an UFA and go to the highest bidder. For a 4 year 20+ goal scorer, he'll make bank out there.

One more huge piece of the puzzle we've gotta rebuild now...
