Spearhead Detachment (1322)

Pretty simple plan here. Put the 3 units of Wracks with the Haemie in one Tantalus and the unit of Grotesques plus the Urien in the other. The Farseer floats about casting Doom and Smite. Doomed liquefiers are nasty and this list has 12. Similarly, doomed Pulse-disintegrator shots are very effective. This would give 24. The list also has a solid set of powerful close combat attacks, and is pretty tough. Any thoughts?

Keep an Haemonculus outside of the tantaluses to give them +1T (they have the coven keyword).

I agree, one of those haemonculi should run behind the talos in order to buff their T value. Give +1T to footslogging talos is certainly more useful than buff embarked troop units.

I'll be deploying Urien outside unless I need to conserve the drops. In which case he will get out turn 1. They aren't planning to stay on board after I have first turn. If I can't get first turn (because my opponent has 3 drops for example) then I will deploy them outside anyway.

Does the Tantalus have anti-armor? Everything else looks to be anti-infantry

Each Tantalus has 12 S8 AP-3 D2 shots. So 24 in total. Doom should help with the rest. Also the Grotesques can deal with armour in CC as can the Tantalsu itself. Doom helps, which is why I pushed a seer in there. The Tantalus can do about 16 wounds a turn to a Doomed super heavy and the s3 and poision can add 1 or 2 more, though not many. On the charge the Tantalus each deal d3 mortal wounds before they fight and the Grotesques and Taloi have OK strength. Should be able to pull down a Knight every other turn. Pull one down in one turn if lucky.

My initial thoughts are that i really like this list (ive been trying to brainstorm double tanlalus list since the rules dropped and I like this better than my own efforts). I think I actially have the models to field this. Not 100% sure on liquifiers, will have to look more closely at that.

Thanks. I like liquefiers, provided I have doom. With this list, I have 12 Liquefiers for a total of ~42 hits on average. Wounding against T4-5 infantry with Doom that is ~23 wounds at AP -1-3. That is good enough for me against such targets. It also encourages longer charge attempts to avoid overwatch.

Without Doom it's about 14 wounds, which is fine. Especially against MEQ/TEQ. Obviously against blobs of T3 stuff it does much better, but being able to reliably take out most of a blob of necron warriors (19-20 on average) will generally do for me.

to be honest I've been itching to use this stuff for ages. I have a large amount of coven stuff, but it always has anti tank problems and stops being coven by the time you add enough AT. With this list the Tantali do the heavy lifting vs mech with the other units only needing to mop up.
