Maybe use clear plastic sheet given a wash with whatever colour you want?

Really nice work. I used simple plasticard blanks filed into appropriate shapes. But my guys pale in comparison, especially the heads. Superb work

Thanks Flinty! I definitely had your guys in mind when I was figuring mine out, but the Kroot heads just clicked better with me. I'll look into the plasticard blades.

Unfortunately I'm extremely new to painting. I'm working up to using minis I actually care about looking good, for now I've tried some Kings of War dwarves, Skaven clanrats, and Heroclix repaints. I'm... getting better? But I'm much better at the modeling aspect of the hobby than painting.

Thank you! Like I said I can't say that'll happen any time soon, but maybe my brother would go for it. He's a lot better, haha. Automatically Appended Next Post:
These just came in, and my idea is that I was going to make Dragoons with them. (I have two sets of legs.) I don't know what piece(s) would be best for the body of the Dragoon. Ideas?

Maybe a couple of crisis suit torsos chopped in half and glued together? With a tank hatch as the cannon mount on the top maybe? Gets expensive though.
Maybe one of these as a basis?

Hmm, what size were you looking for the final model to be as that will affect what parts you need? While looking for reference images I found this fan art which might help you if you are trying to get a lore accurate size.
Basically the artist sketched out a handful of Starcraft characters using heights provided by Blizzard in various media to get a comparison shot, and if you look at the Dragoon they superimposed Selendis' torso over the cockpit to see if a zealot would in fact fit at the size Blizzard described. So maybe that might help you out. Also credit to the artist here.
Also, if you don't mind my asking, where did you get those leg bits from as I've been looking for something similar for a project of mine?
Edit: Added a spoiler for the image.

Don't bring them to a 40k store. It will raise their Aiur.

I'm not sure either of those would work, since I already have the legs and it's the Dragoon body I'm after. This is the look I want:
That symmetrical, round look, with the bulb or pod thing in the middle. And I'm aiming to build two.

This is the size of the legs, so roughly something that will fit between all four of those without making the legs look tiny (or huge, for that matter).
The legs are from a Spider robot from something I hadn't heard of called Robogear. Here's the ebay listing I ordered from. (Lots of nice bits available from that store, too.) http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROBOGEAR-BITS-SPIDER-LEGS/361532665931?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
