Is this scenario legal?

A chaos terminator squad with 5 combi-plasmas is locked in combat with a unit at the start of your turn. In the psychic phase you use warptime on them from a sorcerer within 3". The terminators move 5" back. They are no longer within 1" so can now shoot and charge again?

They didn't fall back during the movement phase, they moved in the psychic phase.

hm, i think it is just still another movement phase so the same restrictions would apply. Nevermind.

Eye of Terror

The same question came up in a game I played the other night. I play CSM, and my opponent - who read the index - seemed to think it was totally legit to move out of combat without it being considered a Fall Back move.

The wording of the rule is 'That unit can immediately move as if it were in its Movement phase.' Which I think is saying all normal rules for movement apply, but it's definitely not saying this is a new Movement phase.

However, the rules for Fall Back are specific to the Movement phase. "Units starting the Movement phase within 1" of an enemy unit..."

Which makes me wonder how Fall Back rules could apply to any phase that is not the Movement phase. The core rules are quite specific. I would be interested in hearing other people's thoughts.

The unit is to move as if it were in its Movement phase. In its movement phase it would have to Fall Back becauase of the "units starting the Movement phase within 1" of an enemy unit..." If you ignore that, then you're not moving tthem as if it were their movement phase.

You're allowed to Fall Back, because you're allowed to move as if it's your Movement phase. When you're moving in the Movement phase you have several options, including the options to Fall Back or Advance. You can't use Warp Time to move normally even though you're within 1" of enemy models because you're supposed to move as if it's the Movement phase. What does "as if it's the Movement phase" mean if not that you're supposed to follow the rules for moving in the Movement phase?

You can't use Warp Time to Fall Back and then shoot, though, because the rules are clear that it doesn't matter when you Fell Back.

See:
"A unit that Falls Back also cannot shoot later that turn unless it can FLY." (p177)
"You may not pick a unit that Advanced or Fell Back this turn..." (p179)

Warptime gives the unit the option to move as per the movement phase.

In the movement phase the only way to move if you are within 1" of enemy models is fallback.

So the unit can move out of 1", by falling back as per the movement phase.
