First to Deploy: Dark Eldar

Dark Eldar Pre Game Comments

Well. Apparently, this is a strong list and I know my opponent is a decent player. Let's see if it is as strong as it looks. My list is not really designed for this. I'm very glad to be placing first though, that should give me first turn!

Spam Pre Game Comments

I like the look of this. I love flyers, had no idea if this would be competetive, but with the tournament opening the way I have to give it a go!

Deployment

Nothing surprising. the Flyers deploy back, the Dark Eldar forward.

Spoiler:

Dark Eldar First Turn

The Tantalus and Venoms push forward, with Urien jogging along next to them. Then the shooting starts. The Tantalus fires first, only managing a measly 4 wounds on the lead interceptor. the first Scourge volley, however, kills it dead, even with -2 to hit! The second set of Scourges puts 4 wounds on the other Interceptor. The three venoms kill a lurking Vindicare, whilst the Mandrakes in a venom put a pair of wounds on the other Vindicare.

Spoiler:

Spam turn 1

The Imperial Planes advance and open fire on the Tantalus. The Interceptor scores a lot of hits, but the toughness of the Tantalus shrugs off all but 1 wound. All of the Storm Ravens fire and when the dust settles from the storm of bolts, melta, laser and missiles the Tantalus still floats undaunted, altogether they did only 7 wounds, taking it down to 10.

The Vindicare shoots at Urien. He hits and wounds (using a Command Point), but Urien makes the PfP save on the reroll (costing me a Command point). The Ratlings do better, inflicting 2 Mortal wounds, one of which is saved by Inured to Suffering.

Spoiler:

Dark Eldar turn 2

The grotesques disembark and Urien cosies up to the vehicles. The Mandrake Venom moves forward. The Grotesques fire their Liquefiers at the Stormhawk, doing 1 more wound, taking it down to 5 wounds. the Tantalus finishes it off. The first squad of scourges shaves only a single wound from the Stormraven transporting the inquisitors, however, the second squad manages 6! The mandrakes fire at it as well and add 1 more, dropping it all the way to 6. Two venoms manage to clear the other Vindicare, while the last wastes all its shots on the Stormraven.

The Ratlings overwatch the Grotesques then scoot away 6 inches making for a difficult charge, fortunately, the Grotesques are Eager to Flay and make the charge with a reroll. In combat they utterly destroy the Ratlings then retreat into the forest. the Tantalus Assaults 2 of the Storm Ravens, dealing 2 Mortal Wounds to the uninjured one with its Scything Charge. It deals 2 more damage to the badly injured Storm Raven.

Spoiler:

Spam Turn 2

The Acolytes and Inquisitor disembark and move towards the Grotesques. The Flyers move as far away as possible.

The crippled Storm Raven fires on the Tantalus as do the rest of the planes, they manage to do 5 wounds, reducing it down to 5.

The Inquisitor uses Smite on the Grotesques, doing 2 mortal wounds. The Acolytes open you p with their storm bolters doing 4 more, this takes out 2 of the Grotesques ready for the charge.

The Power Maul acolytes charge and melt in Liquefier goo. The Storm Bolter acolytes lose 2 and fail their charge, the Inquisitor decides to hold back.

The Acolytes and Grotesques pass leadership.

Spoiler:

Dark Eldar Turn 3

The 10 Mandrakes drop down on an objective and the Grots shuffle towards the Acolytes. The Tantalus moves close to the wounded Storm Raven.

The first shots from the Scourges take 7 wounds off the lightly wounded storm raven. The second set completely whiff. the Tantalus fires at it doing 10 wounds nad eliminating it. It Crashes and Burns, dealing 3 mortal wounds to each other Raven! The Mandrakes fire a volley into the nearest Raven, doing 3 wounds. The Grotesques fire their Liquefiers, killing the remaining bolter acolytes.

The Grotesques charge the Inquisitor and the Tantalus charges the 1 wound Raven, destroying it in a ball of fire. The Grotesques tear the Inquisitor apart.

Nice! Keep them coming!
Just a rule thing: how did Urien make a save against the Vindicare? The Vindicare ignores invuls.

The Tantalus is doing me proud, to be honest. I tested a list with two before switching to this one, other reports around with that.

Thank you for this! Great to know how the tantalus based list fared against the apparent early meta.
