Ave dominus Machina!

I think about buying into the new Primaris Marines (as GW would like me to ) and to make my new army I wanted to have a couple of Librarians leading the army.

The problem I have is that all the force weapons look... strange to me. They are often overdesigned IMO, so I thought about it and came to solution - force chainsword! I really like the way that new chainswords look so I obviously wanted to include them in my army - the problem is - would that make sense in the universe? From what I gathered Force weaponry are sophisticated devices that work by channeling the Warp into your enemy, so technically speaking there is no limitation as to what it could be, am I right?

What do you think? Would a chainsword with every teeth covered with magical runes "work" as a force sword would? Would it make sense?

Where have you seen a Primaris chainsword?

I think you'll run afoul of the WYSIWYG rules. Since GW doesn't have an in-universe force chainsword your opponents are all going to see a chainblade, assume it's the default melee weapon and possibly throw a fit when they find out it's the much higher statted power blade. I'm not certain it's worth the trouble of declaring the weapon before every game with a player that hasn't seen it before.

Haven't - I referred to chainswords from 2015 Assault Squad as "new" (They are very recent to me )

That is what I'm afraid of - players getting the wrong idea. Though maybe if I paint it decently? Don't know, thanks for your opinion though.

If its being seen across a table top.
Can you tell its a force sword at 3-4 feet. If yes. Go ahead.

If not you need to rethink.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Maybe go with the Eviscerator and keep the pistol on their side. Not sure how to go about making it "force" outside electric design on the teeth though.

Fluff wise, not sure where you'd fit the psi-convector(the "runes" are an actual device rather than a design philosophy) into a Chainsword or how it would be actually incorporated into the cutting edge so as to enable the weapon to be psychically enhanced.

If they already have chainfists, I don't see why similar a similar concept could.not be deployed on the chainsword. I would start by adding some.kind of power packs to the sword.

There are (were) some characters with special Chainswords whose ap value was better than usual. The Teeth of Terra relic from the last codex was basically a power weapon. Also the old metal Chaos Terminators came with a Chain Axe that you would have to count as a Power Axe legitimately.

I also happened to model one of my White Scars Librarians with a Chain Axe, and I Figure they just empower the sword/axe with their psychic strength. As long as youre clear with what your model has, it should be fine.

Maybe you could shave down the boxy side of the chainsword blade area to make it look like a blade. You could say its a force sword with a serrated edge?

If you paint it with some glowing teeth and runes so it stands out, it should be fine.
Or if it's just the detailing that's the problem, there's really nothing wrong with just swapping out the stock bit for a generic power weapon.
