So I found out in the FAQ models with 2 chainswords, as long as they have at least 2 attacks in their profile, get an extra attack for each profile.
So company vets, and vanguards would get 4 attacks every cc round at strength 4 no AP 1 damage.

For 4 more points per model you can replace the chainsword with a powersword and keep the boltpistol. Means you get a strength 4 shot in your own shooting phases and you get 2 attacks at -3 AP.

I'd love to see vanguard vets rocking 2 chainswords I think it would look awesome. Question is, considering how cheap powerswords are now, which outfit would you rather run? BP PS or 2x CS?

Thanks

It really depends on the role for the unit.

I know what you mean, I speaking in general. If you were going into a tournament and didn't know who you were going to be playing against for example

For Horde slaying I would generally look towards assault cannons, hurricane bolters and the like. Even the humble tactical Marine with bolter is quite an efficient horde-killer. Even with dual chainswords, I worry that VVs would just disappear beneath a tide of bodies if they tried to take on an Ork or Nid blob. Power swords are nice and cheap and allow you to threaten units with good armour saves.

Company Veterans I see being used slightly differently. Due to their slightly higher cost and special rules, they are best used to accompany a character (preferably with an Invulnerable save). Run a 5-man squad accompanying a Chaplain for example and give 2 TH/SS.

Against high AP shooting or CC attacks, the SS dudes can help protect the squad. If someone attacks the character in combat, you can take the benefit of their I++ save and then on a 2+, pass off any failed saves to a BP/CS mook. The Chaplain allows the THs to reroll misses thus getting the benefit of those expensive weapons while minimising the -1 to hit.

Put that squad in a TLAC Razorback and for around 300 points you have a unit that can hose infantry with shooting and pumel heavy units in assault while maximising the survivability of both the command squad and the character.

Vets with two chainswords are actually kind of great in cc. And you don't need to give the same load-out to all of them. Give the veteran sergeant a thunder hammer if you like.

Pairs of lightning claws are an interesting option to mix in as well. You don't necessarily need to give them to everyone - that would cost too much - but a few guys like that can seriously help against tough opponents, while having chainsword dudes absorb hits.

That said, I'm not sure we need this unit at all. It might be simpler to just shoot hordes, but there's definitely a case for having a unit to counter-charge with.

What about marines vs marines, stacks of strength 4 hits would wreck in close combat, 3s to hit 4s to wound. Chuck in a reroll to hit and those chainswords are doing a lot of damage

Against Marines, the additional attacks will do less damage than the regular attacks will if made with a power sword. Rerolls benefit both types of attack equally.

With 2 Chainswords you will be making 4 attacks, hitting on 3s, wounding on 4s and saving on 3s = 0.444 wounds on average
With a power sword you will be making 2 attacks, hitting on 3s, wounding on 4s but only saving on 6s = 0.555 wounds on average

The Power sword user will also get to make his shooting attack with his bolt pistol which improves his damage output further.

Of course the Power sword dude costs more and MEQs are virtually his preferred target. Against Orks etc the dual chainsword dude will have the edge but I am not sure if that edge is enough to compensate for the vastly increased number of warm bodies he will be facing in a horde army.

Just food for thought.

Wait is that chainsword thing right? So say a death company marine gets 2 attacks base, 1 for charging and 1 for unleash rage (If cast) and equipped with 2 chainsword would put out 8 attacks each?! Or do you just gain 2 additional hits for a still impressive 6?

6, each chainsword is an additional +1A. Not bad for horde clearance.

I think 1 chainsword and 1 plasma pistol is the most well rounded loadout.

If you take 10 guys and do not want to pay for 10 pistols, I guess I would take double chain-swords on the others though.

I think these double Chainsword vets are viable, but what transport best suits them? Are they worth a Drop Pod? Do they compliment a Land Raider? I think they might protect all those Razorbacks peoples are planning to spam.

Jump packs are a really good transport now. Cheap deep strike.
