Hello Dakka readers,

I would like to introduce a rather obvious PLOG, it will be primarily of my small necromunda collection as I begin painting it up after purchasing medels a few years ago. Why Necromunda, I love the idea of progression within a gang and the models are suprisingly awesome (for a number of factions). My background previously had been playing 40K for a number of years, however with the edition chaos of 5th, 6th and then 7th I just couldn't keep up. Being a notoriously slow painter also didn't help, it's frustrating when you finally assemble a painted army for tournament play only for a new edition to make it unviable.

Below is a list of the gangs I currently have models for and that I intend to paint, listed is also a possible painting theme.
- Escher Slaneesh
- Delaque
- Vansaar
- Goliath Khorne
- Redemptionists Tzeentch/Nurgle?
- Orlock
- Cawdor Nurgle/Tzeentch?

Why a theme, no reason other than it provides a convenient excuse to break away from traditional painting lines for not just those gangs chosen but all gangs. This is primarily a painting log, it's unlikely I will take the time to do any conversions.

Cheers, Bluestones.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Escher Gang, has been completed over the past two weeks. As stated in the introductory post I wanted to do a Slaneesh theme to allow uniformity within the gang and an excuse to stray from traditional painting rules. As you can see below the images are primarily of completed models.

Hey everyone,

Next on the block is going to be the Redemptionists, because of all the purge by flames reteric I thought they may make a good Tzeentch cult. Khorne was a big consideration and the theme would clearly fit, but the colour scheme I had in mind required more exposed skin to pull off. Whenever I get my hands on some Goliaths I'll post any progress. Although the minatures may not need to be stripped they still have a date with some simple green, mainly because I've been having issues with my undercoat and I want to eliminate any excuses.

I like the yellow glow on the Escher, don't always see that done. Also nice skin tone/concept.

Thanks guys, yeah pretty happy with how they turned out. Theo to be honest the yellow was accidental overspray from the airbrush, but a happy accident. One thing I'm struggling with is applying a black 'wash' at the moment, I'm simply resorting to painting the recesses.

Update: The Redemptionists have been undercoated, I used Grey this time in an attempt to get better coverage with dark blue/purple for the Tzeentch theme (I use black 95% of the time for the depth of colour and refuse to use white). Pics to follow.

Hey Everyone,

After an abysmal first attempt at trying to get a 'Tzeentch' flavoured Redemptionist gang started, a couple of days questioning what went so wrong and some google search inspiration, they are now moving forwards again (albeit slowly). The first attempts were just all wrong, with large blocks of the blue it was hard to work in contrast and I wasn't a fan of the colour specifically the 'electric blue'. I also had attempted dark at the top and light at the base gradation but I could not get my head around it. So attempt 1 is heading to the pot of simple green.

The second attempt is or will be so much closer to what I was aiming for. I found the secret was to use a far more neutral grey/blue as a base to build from allowing me to introduce another tzeentch colour. The second attempt is a long way from being complete with significant inking to seperate the colours, a lot of highlights to emphasize the detail and tidying up the weapons/feet and additional modelled paraphonalia. I'm planning to use black and dirty metal to finish off the the models.

I thought you may be interested in the evolution it often takes rather than just the finished mini's.

Afternoon,

Long overdue update, I've moved on to a different gang, Scavvies. These guys were hard to track down but I'm glad I did, they have been great models to paint. At the moment still a WIP, I have the finer details like teeth, hair, eyes and blood/ooze to complete. I also have to figure out how to dull off the black cloaks and get the bases sorted.

I'm really happy with a few things:
- Not using metallics (finally) I really struggle to blend airbrush work and metallics well.
- The underlighting using the bright pink to get a skin contrast happening
- Using the rust effect stuff
- Limiting the pallette enough so it doesn't look too busy but shows off the amazing detail on these models.

Hope you enjoy! I'm chasing any thoughts on or links to inspiration around painting these cloaks/rags black.

Cheers, Blue
